I was looking at the new rogue talents for Dragonflight. One thing I noticed, the general tree has 3 movement abilities, all on the same row: Fleet Footed, Improved Sprint, and Shadowstep. This is fine I think, usually you’ll be able to pick 2 out of 3. The same logic applies for Leeching Poison, Elusiveness, and Cheat Death. Three defensive of which you can have 2 out of 3, but not all 3.
I think they should also follow the same logic with Vigor, MdF, and DS. Put them all on the same row (where MfD is), so we can only pick 2 out of 3. Also I think Vigor should be in the assa branch, MfD in the outlaw branch (not in the sub branch), and DS in the sub branch, as they are somewhat the ones you would typically go to for each spec.
I guess this means moving Cold Blood further down the assa branch (where Vigor is) and Acrobatic Strike I think further down the outlaw tree (maybe where ER is – and remove ER altogether)
Also, Shadow Dance in the general tree feels off. On last suggestion, maybe invert Alacrity and Lethality.
Agree on Shadow Dance feeling off on the main tree.
I even sort of wish they’d come up with some unique Assassination movement ability (even bringing something old back) and keep whatever that is, shadowstep, and hook baseline for each respective spec. Then, put buffs to those moves in the spec tree.
I actually dig the placement of everything currently in our class skill tree. If people want dance then cool but I’m not sure a lot of people want to take it .
I dig the mix up on things, they did a solid paths with plenty of good choices.
The trees are kind of fun but the whole DF approach is already starting to feel low effort.
After SL (and at this point in general, even if SL was amazing), I want to see more new, dynamic abilities for each class/spec. The class tree should distil the core of the class and add a few new high points that take what its always been and kicks it up a notch – without cannibalizing any of the specs . Then, each spec should really sharpen at the ends of each tree.
Shadowstep, once the final point of the sub tree, should have stayed sub, too, nevermind shadowdance. Give assassination burst of speed and take that out of the core tree IMO.
Just feels lazy… a complete rogue nutjob like myself should be hyped af but it’s like… “eh, there will be some fun builds with mostly old stuff.”
Kind of odd you say that given that rogues right now have the most new talents that didn’t come from something else at all of anyone. Most classes so far got maybe 1 completely new thing in there spec trees.
Is the best no, does it need some work yea they all do, I feel like rogues got the better end of the deal for the first draft. Which over the years is pretty surprising given how it normally goes.
In time as these have been stated many times now by the team to serve as a foundation to build on things. It was wise to bring back being a rogue in its entirety, not limitations because “you’re an assassination ONLY so you ONLY have xyz”.
We have our tools back and that is the biggest thing, any life long rogue wants that.
Other classes also were hooked up nicely and I heavily encourage all to explore their options.
It’s incase we don’t pick it up in the class skill tree. I don’t give a flip about echo as it isn’t my style but it’s good that it is an option for those who dig that to compliment their style of choice.
I plan on using sepsis as that’s my deal to for my style, I’m glad a poison ability came into the kit, we are rogues after all. They did a solid job making diff ways to kill something and I’m happy with it.
I guess the high I’m chasing here is a new active ability at the end of one or all of the spec trees to get the hype going – something with a new or old-yet-tweaked animation, even. Right now, Shadow Mist is the closest we get to that.
There’s cool stuff but nothing gives me that “wow, I can’t wait to see how that feels!” vibe like getting dance back in Wrath or guns for combat in Legion.
And yeah, I want it for everyone, not just Rogues. That all said, at least this sets us up for new stuff in 11.0
Yeah, I hope we get some wild new stuff after they tweak this over DF and the next expac rolls in.
One thing I’m pretty hyped for is that Thistle Tea talent. 3 charges/1 min – if that stays, that’s going to be nice… and it definitely gets that nostalgia vibe pumped.
Assassination looking dirty as hell, too. Maybe I’ve been sub and outlaw for too many patches and that’s what I need to get the hype train going.
Yeah thistle is nice , it will def stay. I still use thistle to this day ha. Plenty of good times for it. I usually keep 20 on me in my utility bag.
All rogues look solid and there are def more than 1 way to customize your kit. I’ve been Subtlety my entire time since I started in Burning Crusade and I really dig how I can get a good bit of that back.
I’m completely down for trading x to get Z. They did a solid go to make us blend.
The cool thing is these skill trees allow people to pick stuff up sooner (ex vanish I think was learned at 22 back in the day). Young rogues can now play with stuff sooner and experiment on their own to build cool stuff. I understand people saying “buyback” but that is nonsense as these allow us to get old combinations and abilities in sooner. It is a solid deal and I’m hyped up for DF dude.
The dragon tempered blades looks filthy paired with empowered envenoms off the amp poison along with the new death mark. There are a lot of options here dude.
I hope they just take their time to focus on variability and tuning with what we already have in DF, and adding new stuff in later EXP, rather than bring us another super cool idea, but not tested and tuned enough because of lack of time. I want the first option for sure.
For me in the Sub tree a really cool idea is Dark Brew - converting bleed dmg into shadow dmg, synergising with shadow dmg based abilities. This is nice introduction to freedom I used to writing about. Sub has now on paper the choice between different type of main dmg output: shadow, white dmg (Find Weakness), poisons. It would be nice bleed dmg would be synergised with something as well… (where is my Hemo I say).
Great points for sure. This will be a great thing to build on for them. The fact we can save multiple builds and not just 3 is something I’ve wanted forever, too, that’s going to be such a huge quality of life boost!
I don’t think it works that way as poisons are unique, treat it more as a new way of doing deadly brew except we can equip deadly + instant / deadly + wound for lethals and mind numbing / atropic ( I think was the name of 1 of the new ones) and crippling etc.
