Hear me out. Please!
I love aug, and I love playing a support role, but I get that the overwhelming view is that it is not well liked. A lot of people have suggested a tank, which could be cool. However…
How about, rather than empowering allies, you augment your own molten elemental pet/s! It had never crossed my mind until I saw the idea a few moments ago in someone elses post, but now I can’t stop thinking how much fun it would be. You could keep essentially the same abilities, rotation, feel, spell effects… except with the addition of having your own conjured black-dragonflight-themed pet or pets. Molten elementals? Black dragon whelps?
Please don’t doom on this without considering how much fun it could potentially be, how much easier it would be to balance and how thematically and visually ace it would be.
Thoughts?
Pet classes are great fun and very popular. Also, just think how well having your own black dragonflight-themed minions would fit with being a Scalecommander. 
It could even just be one extra button added to the game. You could play aug as it is now, or you could choose to summon your minion(s) and then your ebon might just applies to those pets instead of your allies. That way, you could have fun in both follower dungeons, solo, or other content where you don’t want to rely on buffing other players. I’d be so down for this. They could even add it as a temporary special item you could get in season 4 just to try it out! 
I know people who would say unholy focusing more on ghoul was the biggest travesty of legion

The biggest issue aug has that people are upset about is the spreadsheet gameplay style in raids.
Every day i pray they take it back to the WotLK style of dps where you don’t have to overly rely on blizzard’s pet AI
That is not the case from what I’ve seen. It may be the main gripe that many of the top end aug players have, and one I absolutely agree needs addressing (there have been some really good suggestions made). However, I’m talking about the more general community perception. Take Dev players for starters. I very frequently see them calling for Aug to be removed or changed. I’ve seen raid leaders and top end raiders discussing it. I’ve seen a lot of discussion from pvpers about it too, though more so before Aug was nerfed into pvp oblivion.
So you want Evoker to be a hunter too? Seems like what your asking for. Pass.
Isn’t that like saying a demo warlock or undead DK is a hunter just because they have pets?
Dev players are mad that Dev kinda sucks right now, and aug actually sucks worse right now but everybody wants it because it’s impossible to tell when aug is doing good or bad. Especially now with the hooks being broken.
If you’re taking people complaining on the forums as a general vibe of how the playerbase feels about anything, you’re doing it wrong. People come here because they are mad or want to be mad about something. Most people are fine with aug being exactly what it is.
You also have die hard tank players on the forums upset that evoker can’t tank but most tank mains don’t care
The forums are a vocal minority, and people don’t come here to talk about things they like
A fair bit of what I’ve heard is from watching some of the streamers who are very experienced with the game, and from the class discords.

Absolutely not. Pets ruin specs for me. I literally refused to play ice mage because Summon water elemental was important.
