Free Action Potions are an extremely powerful and memorable consumable in Classic.
However, I’m starting to feel like this power comes at the cost of raid encounters being anything other than stack and burn target dummy fights, and renders both class and boss mechanics completely pointless.
Everyone FAPs on Thermaplugg instead of playing around dispels, Blessing of Freedom, or Sentry Totem.
Melee FAP on Menagerie to completely ignore encounter design encouraging bringing ranged.
Tanks FAP on Grubbis so that no one in the raid needs to have an interrupt keybind.
Everyone FAPed on Kelris to basically ignore P2.
Instead of using the interesting variety of tools brought by classes and specs, it’s all negated by the exact same consumable. It’s not interesting gameplay and destroys the creative problem solving that makes MMOs fun.
Obviously they’re used even more in PvP, and with the enormous amount of long-duration CCs in Vanilla they deserve to be there. But they also have counterplay in PvP because they can be purged, which balances them out quite a bit.
But please consider disabling them in PvE instances so all this effort going into classes and encounters gets to shine.

If you don’t like them, don’t use them. Just don’t be surprised when other people don’t want to invite you to raid because you’re refusing to use a 20 silver consumable that makes things a lot easier.

In what world are people using faps on grubbis or the zoo?
i agree…tired of the mechanics of a fight being as stupid as “pop your free action potion”. It’s lazy and uninspired game design.

It’s used on Grubbis to prevent Chomper’s Petrify without having to interrupt or dispel it.
It’s used on Menagerie so the sheep can be stacked and cleaved with the other 3 bosses without melee being stunned.
I agree.
People finding spots to use FAPs like on trash to facilitate pulling more was fun and emergent gameplay. These “okay now get ready to use your free action potion, children!” phases just kind of make me roll my eyes.

Agree completely. It’s lame having the already bare bones mechanics be ignored. Also, it creates drama when people don’t bring one. Faps will also always have value from pvp anyways.

Well, I’m glad at least a few people see the problem. If FAP doesn’t get changed hopefully they’ll at least keep it in mind when designing the later SoD encounters.
They honestly should just remove it entirely, its beyond a gimmick in PvP.
Congratulations on your impressive and significant comment.
heh you just dont want to spend the 20 silver on the faps or forgot to get them one day and got sat from a raid diddnt you?
faps are cheap and you can only fap 1 time in an encounter so it gives some gameplay .
you can always from a raid and forbid fap usage if you really want to.
dont crap on the fun for other people though.

At least I wrote it myself.

It’s best not to interact with Glinda, they troll in virtually every thread.
I wish they were 20s.
Last I checked, a stack of 5 was going for 3g on my server.
I mean we did the first week but after that it never happened again. No need. I doubt most competent groups use a FAP on this fight. Same with kelris
If other groups want to spend money on consumables to down the boss I don’t see why that’s a problem though.
Yes, I’m sure none of these speed kills that used FAPs on Therma are competent:

Haha. In fairness I was trying to write a ChatGPT-esque comment, not pick a fight.
Appreciate the warning.
FAP doesn’t even work on the Grubbis Petrify. My group tried it. You also don’t need it on Menagerie even with a Melee heavy group. It stuns one person for a second every 5. If 5 melee zerg it it doesn’t even get 2 stuns off before quarter.
