Suggestion - Difficulty settings for retail leveling

What if Blizzard implemented some kind of difficulty slider for leveling in retail wow? I think it would be cool if you could ratchet up the mob damage/health significantly if you wanted to make the leveling experience more engaging - similar to difficulty in classic.

This would of course be completely optional, and nobody would be forced to do it.

Just a thought I had as I’m sitting here creating an alt. Would be fun if I could have a challenging leveling experience, instead of just pulling the entire zone and aoeing it down while taking no damage

Leveling isn’t meant to be hard in this game. It’s barely even an aspect.

That is why there are other games and Classic, which again, leveling is barely a thing

Blame it on zone scaling. Used to be if you wanted a challenge, you’d just to go a higher level zone and do those orange and red quests.

I know a lot of people view it that way. Sometimes, I do too. But it would be nice to have the option. I’m envisioning something simple like an NPC you can talk to that toggles mobs to have 100% more hp and do 3x more damage. Something like that. I’m not a software engineer so I don’t know if this is a big ask or not, but if it’s easily implemented I don’t see a downside.

It’s not worth the dev time or energy spent to incorporate it.

People wanting harder leveling is an extreme minority.

You have classic for that.

A difficulty slider in a game that already has level scaling would probably be a nightmare to code.

Take your gear off.

Good luck.

Game would probably erupt in flames.

It’s an interesting idea. The rewards would need to be significantly better for most people to use anything but the normal/easy difficulty (see how many spam M+7 for crests when +9s give more)

Would it give more XP, the main reward levelers want? Because I think that will get lots of complaints unfortunately. War mode already got lots of complaints and the reward is rather small.

I would love a type of Heroic Timewalking Campaign.
Basically a timewalking mode that made things much more difficult and gave you more of a leveling experience similar to what it was like when your chosen expansion was current.
Add in cosmetic rewards for doing it for each expansion and it could be a fun and rewarding way to level characters for those looking for a way to experience all of the leveling story of an expansion while still working towards some cool rewards.

It would not be for people just trying to reach max level as fast as possible.

Its not but it would be more interesting if it had a setting similar to diablo 3/4. Select difficulty of world content for better xp and rewards.
Heck, throw an xp nerf option in there for people that want the classic experience in retail :joy:

If the goal is to make leveling harder, there should be no additional rewards. If anything, reduce them to increase difficulty.

It was my impression that their qualm with leveling was with the ease of gameplay, that one can pull a large number of enemies without dying, rather than the speed or rewards, but I imagine all three are involved for some.

If the leveling becomes harder, the XP per mob could be significantly increased, because now you are killing fewer mobs per pull and it takes longer. If the reward is the same, it becomes very inefficient to play in this mode.
