Suggestion: Add waterwalking passive to Pathfinder Part 1

I know people at blizz have said in the past that the water strider mounts were kind of a mistake, and a lot of players feel similar since it completely invalidates any other ground mount until flying.

My suggestion would be as part of Pathfinder Part 1 would be to put a permanent passive buff on the player that allows waterwalking on any ground mount. This gives an extra reward besides 20% mounted speed and lets players use their favorite ground mounts until flying comes out.

Thoughts?

I’m ok with this. Failing that, give me my waterwalking Dreadsteed back!

daze immunity would be cool as well.

Pretty sure they hate water walking almost as much in flying.

They were going to remove that ability from waterstriders in WoD.

I thought it was in legion, and they were going to change waterstriders to only work in the zones from the expansion you get them from.

but yeah, my warlock misses her jesus horse.

Possibly.

It’s been hard trying to tell the difference between the last 3 expansions.

I would like this they need to give us glyphs back that are worth something

As someone who mains a shaman with waterwalking, yeah I’m 100% behind this idea. If they’re not willing to deal with the backlash of restricting water striders to their given expansions, then they need have a current-expansion option to unlock waterwalking. Going back to old expansions for multi-week grinds is not something I will ever consider doing to travel more efficiently in current content, and it shouldn’t be expected.

Hell, they could tie it to the turtle rep specifically if they wanted, since they seem to have a water based magic thing going on.

Personally, I’ve never understood why people put the waterwalking striders so high up on a pedestal. They… are not that great. I only use them when I have to.

I dismount my normal mount at the water’s edge and mount the strider to cross. There’s a 50/50 chance I’m going to be hit by a random swimmer, which then negates the waterwalking ability. I can only use it to walk over water again after I’ve left combat and can dismount/resummon it.

I can only imagine if they made it a passive ability, it would probably wind up having more strings tied to it that would force my opinion of them even lower.

Nah.

I see no reason for WW to be universal.

Do I wish something besides the Strider had it? Yes. Simply because it would be nice to not see the Strider mount on Every. Single. Toon.

I wouldn’t be upset if the other half of the population wasn’t running Sky Golems (thankfully that’s been reduced as apparently herbing isn’t the #1 past time of the population any more).

I can’t say I would want a Water Walking Herb Picking Diesel Power Sky Golem that can also fly.

But, no, it does not bother me that some classes have it and some don’t.

My DK has it. It’s wonderful. My DK also runs faster. Yay DK!

Piddy here doesn’t (not any more), and the only time she had a problem was when she tried to go to Tol Dagor. Apparently you can’t swim there. If she wasn’t summoned, I have no idea how you got there (was there quest to port you there at some point?). I did note that there apparently weren’t any WW potions in the AH at the time (do these still exist? do they work in BfA?).

I do have Underwater Breathing, which I cast routinely, which provides a 20% speed boost. And I cast on others (for example, the Darkshore salvage WQ we had this morning, I was casting it on everyone).

Other than that, I make do. My warrior doesn’t have it. He can’t water walk, can’t breath under water, can’t go fast under water. So you know what? He dives, does stuff, rises back up, breathes, rinses and repeats. It’s the Warrior Way. With all the plate armor, I’m grateful he doesn’t sink like a rock. Can you imagine having a Sink mechanic for Plate and Mail wearers in water, that works like Wind does? Whee! What fun THAT would be! That puts a whole new bent on “immersion” (nyuk, nyuk) (Did I mention that I loathe wind mechanics?).

Having universal everything makes choices unimportant. If you want water walking, roll a class that has it. Farm the mount. Do whatever. No reason we should all have it.

wouldn’t that make the two water strider mounts useless?

Do shaman get a combat ability from every other class to compensate?

Well they wouldn’t do this because it would prevent people from going back and wasting time to get the mount so it would be less time played.

Water walking isn’t needed. A better idea would be to add flying with pathfinder part 1. Or put the entire achievement in game at the launch of the expac and tell us what date flying will be “enabled”. Not only would that satisfy a lot of people, but having an exact date when flight will be enabled will make the devs less likely to hold off till the end of the expac again, especially if they see a significant increase of subs dropping before it’s enabled and then coming back after it’s enabled(something I think will likely be the case).

I’m willing to put in the work for pathfinder as it was in Legion without complaint if I know when I’ll be able to enjoy the work I’m putting in AND the achievement is added in full at the launch of an expac. Otherwise, they’re just pushing yet another paying customer further and further towards the never-ever-buying-another-ActiBlizz-product zone. Sure they don’t care, but lately, I’m caring less and less myself.

Semper Fi! :us:

think that’s a good idea, would like to see them add it.

You can swim there, but you have to go directly at it from the side, there’s a bit of land that’s raised enough to not be considered fatigue if you swim over it. It’s bad because there is no sign of that “bridge” on the map at all.

Maybe there’s a quest hiding somewhere for it, but it’s certainly not part of the questing required for the zone achievement, so it’s kind of weird all around. I guess it IS going for that whole Alcatraz island thing though.

It isn’t necessary.

Something I saw on Reddit that I thought would be interesting; what about an item crafted by Scribes that gives you a 2 hour WW buff (quadrupled for scribes) that works like the LW barding or the BS stirrups.

You could argue this invalidates mounts like the Water Strider, but don’t the stirrups do the same thing to the Sky Golem?

You won’t see it on me

This would make inscription so much better!!

We could actually make something good!
