Hi readers.
I recently returned to WoW after a long absence, and now looking for a class to be when I grow up. I’ve tried a few of them out, but I don’t think I’m done taking test drives.
As I gobble up quests (Like potato chips, they are), some of the quests have desciptions that say, “Suggested Players [3]”. And I’ve found that sometimes this is a serious limitation.
Is there a class that can take down such quests solo? (Without outleveling the quest, that is.) Historically, it seems the answer to similar posts has generally been Beastmaster Hunter, Protection Paladin, and maybe Affliction Warlock. But things change from expansion to expansion. What used to be the best isn’t necessarily the best.
Aff Locks and BM hunters are both good soloing classes at least in the pre-patch. Cant speak to Prot though.
They toughened up some of the group quests a while ago to actually require a group in most cases. You might have to ask in local zone chat or use the Lookimg For Group tool to get participants. The LFG tool will be cross realm, zone chat, of course, is still local realm only.
All classes find it impossible to solo “Suggested Players [3]” until they improve their gear and borrowed power such as Azerite traits. At which time all classes can burn down world quests meant for three players with relative ease.
BM Hunters are great for solo as they are very mobile, able to have their pet tank for them and can pretty much ‘cast’ everything while moving. Hunters are upset now that the Revive spell takes so long to rez their pet, but its still a solid choice.
Protection Pallys when played right with good gear become VERY hard to kill. So its a solid choice for most any content.
Demon Hunters only have one DPS spec, Havoc. They’ve consistently had great DPS so they are due to be nerfed imo, but I’m not betting on it. They are probably the most mobile class and they have the simplest rotation. If you haven’t played one yet give it a try.
In BFA all classes were viable though there have been some dead specializations. Unless you are looking to quit your day job to do high end raids or M+ I recommend that you pick what you find the most fun. Its the fun that keeps you coming back particularly when you have to grind content for competitive gear week after week.
BM hunter, Prot pally, Bear.
Those are the 3 I’ve been playing since I’ve returned and all three have taken “Suggested players [3]” solo in whatever gear the quests had given until that point.
I was on Argus a few days ago when I got a quest to go through a portal and kill the boss who was in there.
Turned out to be a level ?? Demon Boss - nope, nothing I could solo. However, from a distance I could see someone taking him down. And yes, it was a demon hunter soloing him. He was nice enough to party up so I could get the quest done.
Anyway, I play mainly solo due to medical reasons. You’d be surprised when you learn to kite real good, and have some decent armor/weapons, sometimes those numbers recommending a number of players don’t mean much (and I play mainly mages/locks/spriests).
So, don’t let those numbers intimidate you, and give it a shot - once you level up a bit. Just be careful with elites - when their base-level is 2 or more levels above you, plus they’re elite, they are pretty hard to kill.
Good luck.

Thanks for the responses! You guys are helpful and informative, and I hope to pay your kindness forward.
For anybody who references this post in the future, I’ve discovered now that if you’re an Affliction Warlock and nobody else is around to help kill an elite, you can roll up your sleeves, your voidwalker and you, and get the job done.

Your mileage may vary, but Shamans are a possibility too, using the Earth Elemental to tank.

Also blood dks can do q lot of those solo. Its all about using your cool downs and abilities. But I have done them on a bear, but hunter and blood dk. Haven’t really worked on my pally yet, and prot warrior seems very weak this expac
