Suggested Hotfix: Remove Fishing Pole from Profession Slots

It just doesnt work with the Underlight Angler. The passives are hit or miss on whether or not they even enable, and it’s a constant battle of removing and re-equipping the rod even in the 1% of the time it might be functioning in a way that is considered “Working” - I wouldnt know, I’ve yet to see what “Working” looks like for this feature as my rod is completely broken right now and I cant turn into a fish or walk on water with it.

This has made fishing more of an annoyance than a calming way to just ‘exist in the world’.

The easiest fix is to take off the Rod slot for the profession tab, and just keep the hat/boots/etc. So please, until you can figure out how to make it work, stop punishing us with a broken and half-baked attempt at change.

Why do WoW players have an obsession with being punished? There are so many posts asking Big Bad daddy Blizzard to stop punishing them.

I dont know what you’re getting at, clearly dealing with all these extra complications while trying to fish doesnt feel like a reward. It feels like something was taken away/made more tedious, similar to a punishment.

It’s not an escape room or a haunted house, making the experience more miserable, or complicated isnt the goal.

Underlight Angler is working absolutely fine for me. You have to cast Fishing to activate the perks. If you go into combat you have to reactivate it. You can also unequip and re-equip the pole to get it to activate.

The bigger issue for me is that the Underlight is obsolete.

this is absolutely fine to you?
yikes.

furthermore you can no longer improve the underlight angler because it’s now in a profession slot item and not equipped in your weapon slot on your character, which means you don’t get AP from rare fish anymore.

I wanted to max out mine before the expansion only to realize I couldn’t anymore.

(EDIT: apparently this was fixed 2 weeks ago)

the abilities where you fish up certain pools entirely in one cast is broken though.

so in area’s where it’s not outright broken, it’s become cumbersome to use.

even with all it’s problems calling it obsolete is dead wrong, when it does work it’s godly: water walking, water breathing, boosted swim speed, reduced detection range from mobs, and +15 fishing (+20 if enhanced).

for me to use something else blizzard would have to add a fishing rod that doubled my fishing skill (does that even really do anything), Especially since with all my fishing gear + the underlight anger I’m sitting at 137 fishing.

No, but it does function reliably within the limitations that it has. I just wish I could use it, but it’s irrelevant while the crafted pole has a big stack of Perception on it.

It doesnt work reliably though, I cant speak for others, but my rod doesnt do anything for me anymore: When I’m actively fishing (Casted “Fishing”) it gives water walking, once I’ve caught the fish, it turns itself off, and you cant cast “Fishing” while underwater so I cant even do that to turn into a fish. Putting on and removing the pole does nothing but give the passives for a split second before removing them - reloging or reloading doesnt do anything to fix it.

“If you go into combat you have to re-activate it”

Dumb. If I’m just swimming in the water and something targets me (because a monster aggro’s), then I cant ignore it and keep swimming to fish a little further away. I have to stop and engage or fight it because it’s forced me out of fish form, and disabled my fishing pole abilities.

Then I’d have to go in and un-equipped and re-equipped the fishing pole to get the water walking and fish-form back, it doesnt just automatically re-activate after combat…

Ie. The whole thing is a un-optimized mess where the design mechanics of the pole do not function fluidly with the framework of the new profession system.

The easiest/most optimal thing they can do at this point is remove fishing poles from these profession slots and let the pole function as a weapon like before.

I completely agree that they need to remove fishing poles as an equipped item for Dragonflight fishing. It’s very broken now. I am an avid fisherman and the Underlight Angler has been the single best piece of equipment I have obtained in WOW, good through multiple expansions, walking on water, swim speed when submerged, there is nothing like it. Blizz at least give us the option to mark specific equipment as not to be equipped in these stupid profession slots. I want to be able to choose when when I want to equip my fishing rod or my staff based on whether I am fishing or not and not have some stupid expansion BS take away my options.
