Being able to play with talent builds prior really helps determine which class I will play. How the rotation and feel works out. Now I’ll do some research, and just HOPE I choose something right so I dont waste the first two months on something I dislike

Dont they unlock as you level? That wouldnt work.

PTR is level 70 capped. 
Yes you get 1 point per level, and you get every spot filled. You can even switch which “hero” talent tree you want ((Like I can switch from Dark Ranger to Pack whatever when bored without having to go through a nightmare)).

Not gonna lie, hero talents have been really meh in my opinion. I feel sorry for the souls who had to sit down and plan them out. I also dread if we find we have to go through & pick, choose and rebuild the trees regularly to meet content needs of dungeons and raids. Hopefully they act to cater better to our playstyle, but the few I’ve tested and messed around with just fell flat. Even testing them out with the class tier gear offered on Beta a lot of them felt clunky and less streamlined.
I dunno. I’m getting to old to recalculate how all these new abilities and doo-dads are supposed to fit into and enhance my rotations. I know I’ll eventually learn it, but I’m still gonna be grumpy & complain.

Wym? They’re easy to plan out, there is no variance.
Well. That’s a little disingenuous of me. They do need to make sure it works with the existing tree, but that would have been the case for any new power added. (Sets have to do the same.)

I guess because I find them mediocre, I feel sorry for the folks that had to put them together. I’m wondering how much they might get trash talked moving forward. It’s not exactly a morale booster to see the time & effort you put into stuff not stick a good landing with an audience. Particularly when it’s one of the big selling points to your next expansion.
Mostly, I’m projecting the trends we see on the forums and anticipating a future of worst possible outcomes. I’m a pessimist today.

Hero Talents are the sort of thing you look at for a bit and eventually ask yourself “Is that it?” Feels bad on both fronts. Not only did they put it together, they also thought it was a good idea.

The hero talents also pale in comparison to how much fun the Panda Remix tinker slot abilities have been - finding, stacking, mixing. I think switching back & forth from Remix to Beta has added to my level of disappointment in the Hero talent dynamics.
But who knows, maybe they’ll shore them up.

My understanding is that they occasionally do this by saying “You know how we said you could pick your own talents? Nah bro, take X or your whole hero spec doesn’t work”, which I’m not thrilled about. Although it somewhat depends on what X is; now that SL is over nobody should be forced into Convoke the Spirits, but if you’re trying to make a Feral build without Rip that’s kind of on you.
Anyway, it seems like they could put the ability to view hero talents into the prepatch even if you can’t get the level to actually put points into them, but either way it’s only going to be an issue for a few weeks at most. And I’m sure there are already calculators on third-party sites based on beta or PTR data, anyway.
P.S. Are people already doomsaying that anyone who picks the non-Icyveins-approved hero tree will be declined for all their groups, the way they predicted for Shadowlands?
Despite Icy Veins usually being out of date or in some instances flat out incorrect, yes, people think this way. They believe there is NO WIGGLE ROOM and that the meta dominates even the lowest of keys.
I’m not convinced most of the people I pug with know HOW to check my talents.

I’m on the beta,
I didn’t find hero talents to be as big of a deal as people are making them out to be.
On the classes I’ve played they haven’t made a huge impact on rotation or how the class feels.
I think they were oversold to try to disguise a few additional talents as a box feature.
Marketing for the expansion has been terrible. They should have leaned in with more CGI videos and a pre patch event more directly tied to the story to hype up the world soul saga story like they did with BFA (which was masterfully hyped, regardless of how good/bad of an expansion you view it as) instead of trying to focus on building hype through focusing on warbands, delves and hero talents.
I think there’s a solid expansion here that people aren’t that excited for.
Should be a ton of youtube videos of people testing the various hero trees. Try checking them out? It might help some.
I know for healer’s there are a bunch of good streamers/youtube videos explaining, testing, and showcasing the hero trees. LBninja7 just made a video going through the healer hero trees.
I’ll be too busy over-thinking the new talent shifts in the Windwalker tree.
