Such a great change for Prot

I gotta say Prot pally feels amazing right now granted its only been a day but holy crap, My dps my abilities everything just feels good and smooth. And to think this forum is all doom and gloom for the class, good thing i tried it out anyways.

That being said i dont exactly run any challenging content so i cant attest to that but for an average player these changes are great in PVE

Blizzard nailed it with prot this pre patch.

Ran a +16 Workshop for giggles yesterday to test things out.

-DPS took a slight hit, but I think that is more due to Set Bonuses being inactive than anything.
-Holy Power generation was also impacted, but again that is due to the set bonus.
-In terms of actual tankiness, it felt no different which is a good thing. If anything I might have been more tanky and barely had to use any defensives.

I find with double judgement and 3 stacks of blessed hammer im not really having much issues with HP generation.

once i switched to a more shield based talent setup i found my dps shot up and i had a constant rolling absorb from it and rarely have to use defensives

I ran Blessed Hammer in seasons 1-3 and swapped to Hammer of Righteousness because of the set bonus generating extra Holy Power. Might transition back to Blessed, but not convinced yet.

I didn’t take double judgement either, I think initial pulls it might help but sustained combat with chain pulling and using it on cooldown would make it like it has 1 charge.

Hmm yeah i see what you mean by a waste if im casting it on CD didnt think of that ill play around with that talent see where else it could benefit, Im thinking eye of tyr or righteous protector

Yeah I can see Eye of Tyr being useful as an additional 1 minute defensive CD, but since I am barely even using Ardent Defender as it is, I went with Righteous Protector.

I also played using Final Stand all expansion regardless of what people said about it so I am keeping that for Dragon Flight.

Hmm thats true i am using my defensives less maybe the point in resolute defender would be better spend in bastion of light for an emergency oh crap button with WoG or a potentially decent burst using them on shield.

that way i can get another point get max out righteous protector instead of just the one point i was going to do since im basically casting wrath on CD.

One question i have is do you think light of the titans and then its follow up hand of the protector are still worth it? I got it mainly for Hand but im wondering if we can afford to lose it as thats 3 points i could put into more offensive talents.?

I havent used final stand did you use it with that talent that would auto shield you when you got below a certain threshold?

Prot Paladin is in a fantastic spot and it will get better when we hit 70 and get all our talent points. Takes some time to adjust to less holy power generation and a greater focus on keeping up block chance buffs but after that it’s great!

Man how do you all live without cleanse? Drives me crazy.

I’m looking forward to playing around with stuff this weekend to see how it feels, but it looks better than I expected going in at least.

i still have my cleanse what you mean

Ah I meant to reply to Sosari

I currently have Light of the Titans, but not Hand of the Protector.

Auto shield? I’m not sure what you mean by that. I use it as a 3 minute CD immunity that won’t lose agro. It’s great for Necrotic, Battle Res when you need to get agro again or if you need to engi res (in DF we will have real BR), and other situations. I actually had my routes set up so I would plan certain pulls to use Divine Shield.

Depends on the dungeon. Most of them don’t have things I would be able to cleanse. If I was running something like Plague Fall, I would definitely adjust my spec to incorporate it.

Makes sense, I keep forgetting there’s easy switching now

Only tested with doing the halloween dungeons since my UI and addon are not working. Seems more or less the same? Aveinbers shield not generating holy power a a bit odd but having more than one judgement seems a nice change Feels I am missing some spells though.

Have to tested it our more. Wasn’t feeling good last night so I was doing much

necrotic is removed in df, just a reminder sir

Yes thanks, I was just speaking for this current expansion. I’m sure it will still have its uses for other affixes in DF.

Keep in mind we have massive stat budgets with s4 gear. It’ll likely feel a lot slower at the beginning of DF.

Yes it’s good to keep in mind our current stat budgets compared to when we restart our gearing.

That being said I ran a 21 upper last night (that feel apart due to ppl not knowing quaking of all things) regardless I felt tanky! My Ui was all a mess but I never felt in danger. We have a lot of new tool in our kit just at 60 and we will get another 10 points to spend.

It feels like an entire revamp of the spec and it felt surprisingly good with all the doom talk lately.

Rn I haven’t lost anything in my kit and I’ve gained Tyr’s and Sentinel. Yes, lower AD uptime with less HP but now we can have bubble taunt AND cdr on wings and kings?! That’s rad.

So yea we may end up with gaps in SOTR now (especially when our s4 stats go away) but it feels like I have a ton of new defensive stuff to press in/before those moments.

What do you know, hyperbolic theory crafters without relevant experience are wrong again.

I agree, the spec feels good and we are missing 10 points that we’ll get as we level.

Being able to take Blessed Hammer and Holy Shield is another bonus whereas before it was one or the other.

Yea I can’t play without my UI and not having WA is bad.
