I play a lot on my own, I don’t have friends and guildies don’t really do much with me, so I play by myself pretty much most of the time.
It’s literally worse than playing a holy priest. How is this even possible? A priest wears cloth, a holy priest isn’t even spec’d for damage, but somehow the Subtlety Rogue can barely fight 1 person at a time… in leather… on a class made only to deal damage… What??
I’ve only barely dabbled in rogue myself, but in the limited time I’ve spent playing them, I couldn’t really wrap my head around subtlety. I stuck with assassination and had a much easier time with it.
What level is your rogue? I just leveled up a Sub rogue and didn’t have any issues. I actually thought it was pretty boring for the most part.
60, just doing time runner stuff… I use Pawn to help me know what to build, and even so… all the more to you I guess.
I tried 3x before I finally stuck with mine at the end of bfa summer. Mind due to limitations I only get a couple hours a day playing, but I was determined this time.
It took quite a few levels and a lot of patience. Also I chose assassin. Now it’s my favorite alt! (Kinda ticked at the nerfing that just happened though), but my belf Rogue is fantastic fun!
I can give you any pointers if you need them. My rogue is “Silkypaws” on Stormrage, Alliance side.
Once you hit the 50-60 range, it feels less like a lethal rogue and more like you are swatting enemies with tiny pool noodles. it got so bad that I literally swapped to my usual spec of combat/outlaw and was doing twice the damage with the exact same gear.
Roll your face across the keyboard, and then vanish because you can’t fight the second guy who showed up?
What “guys” are you having problems with? You should be able to easily handle all non-elites and most elites. You always attack from stealth and can CC if need be…if you get overwhelmed then vanish and try again. You can use the Timerunner’s bandage while in stealth also.
Tbf, once you get into 50-60 (and especially 60-70), enemies start actually feeling like they can hit you. Rogue also (supposedly?) has relatively bad scaling on remix leveling.
Practically everyone… a few odd cases of enemies I wont have an issue fighting 1 or 2, but most I have to single them out and pray really. Focus intently on using every rogue ability up my sleeve, stun, stack combo while behind, stun get behind again, keep spamming…
Leveling a Rogue is a secret.

Just every day mobs, in the beginning, a stealth and ambush turns everything into red mist, then as you hit the 3/4 mark, they start to stop actually dying fast. So when you stealth ambush, the mob turns around and thanks you for the light massage then proceeds to pummel you within an inch of your life. Using your kool aid health potions on cooldown just to survive, maybe a ‘cheat death’ or two.
so the experience goes from lethal assassin to unwashed hobo with two dull butter knives.
I tried to level a rogue in Remix.
A cute little Vulpera sub rogue. All the guides said sub rogues were fun and good for leveling.
Got to level 23 and deleted her. Made a Resto shaman instead and am much happier.
I don’t like the class. Have a dwarf rogue and he isn’t too bad, he’s outlaw or combat or whatever combat is now. The ones with the pistol shot ability. Basically a lightweight warrior.
Sub rogues are scary fun, but that could be why they feel irresponsibly squishy…
You’re playing sub wrong.
I enjoy my sub rogue. You just have to pick and choose your fights (in pvp).
I was wondering when the git gud people would show, thanks.
Rogues suck now from what I hear however sub isn’t that bad.
That’s why I say you must be doing something wrong/overlooking something.
I’d never tell anyone to “git gud”. I’m far from perfect myself but of all the 3 rogue specs, in my experience sub is the best but it also takes the longest to become familiar with.
At least it used to. I haven’t played my rogue in awhile now so could be wrong. GL.
If by “timerunning” you are referring to MoP Remix, then yeah, the scaling while leveling up can be pretty rough for any class. I was struggling as a Shaman, and they’re typically more tanky than other casters (especially since I always made sure to have a shield on)
Sub rogues in ordinary retail feel fine to me, I don’t have much of an issue.
