Does anyone know if paying for sub with in game gold on retail will allow access to classic? It kind of sounds like it since it is shared but just wanted clarification. Thank you for any replies.

As far as we know, you should be able to use a retail wow token and gain access to classic since it’s all under one sub anyway.
Active retail account Subscription = Classic Access.
How you pay for the sub is immaterial.

A sub is a sub. It doesn’t matter how you pay for it. A sub gives access to both games. So yes, buying tokens in retail is one way to add play time to your account for classic.

As long as you can log into WoW Retail on a character above level 20, you can log into WoW Classic.
