Subject: Crònós – Quest flags/phasing out of sync; cannot access completed story (Retail, Quel’Thalas)

If you look at the top right of the quest window, that little campfire with the green checkmark indicates the quest was completed by another character on your account. However, it’ll appear as false if you didn’t complete it on the character you’re currently logged in on.

What I suspect is the quests were completed by another character on your account, which is why you’re seeing the achievement (since that is account-wide) but you’re seeing the C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted function return false.

Hi, I need to ask if this is normal or a bug.

All my active quests from the new expansion (Khaz Algar) appear correctly on the Khaz Algar map, but they also show up all bunched together on the map of Hillsbrad Foothills (Laderas de Trabalomas), even though I don’t have any quests pending in that old zone.

Screenshot for reference:

Is it expected behavior that new expansion quests also appear on old-world maps, or is this another symptom of my character’s phasing/quest flag desynchronization?

That’s abnormal.

Are you using any quest tracking addons? It’s like something is overlaying quest markers on the wrong map, and in a nonsensical arrangement (a grid of quest markers is absolutely wrong).

@Terise

Just to be absolutely clear: these quests were completed on my main character. I don’t play alts for story or campaign content—at all. I’m one of those players who does everything on a single main, so this is not an account-wide/alt completion situation. That’s why I’m asking for a review of my per-character quest flags/phasing state on this specific character.

Sniperorc: I also thought it might be addons at first, but I’ve already tested thoroughly:

  • Repaired the game client.
  • Fully reinstalled the game.
  • Logged in with no addons enabled.
  • Cleared the cache and WTF folders.

And the same problem still happens — the quests from the new expansion appear clumped together on the wrong map, even with a completely clean client.

Did you also uninstall/set to not run your addon client?

Otherwise you will want to try a reset again. Just disabling add-ons is not enough, they could still leave corruption stuff behind.

I know I stopped using Questie ages ago because it kept showing all the quests lumped up on the map.

This, 100%. Just disabling addons is not a UI reset. You need to delete (or rename) the Interface folder as well, and THEN log into the game so the client can rebuild all three folders.

I want to clarify that I already went as far as completely removing everything related to the game and Blizzard from my system. I deleted the Blizzard folder, uninstalled CurseForge, removed the entire WoW folder, and even searched through File Explorer for any trace of Battle.net, Blizzard, WoW, or CurseForge and manually deleted them all. After that I reinstalled the game clean from scratch, but unfortunately the issue still persists and I was not able to solve it.

This is not the same as uninstalling a program. If this is the path you are going, you need to uninstall through the Bnet client or using the Windows Add/Remove Programs option in the Settings menu.

However, this is not needed for your issue. It’s is very likely being caused by an add-on. Do the Full UI Reset, and do not skip any steps or add anything.

I want to clarify again that my problem is real. To prove it, I took screenshots on different days of the same quest.

One day it appeared as available/incomplete:
i.postimg.cc/DmV2tsWR/Captura-de-pantalla-2025-09-19-211302.png

Another day it did not appear at all:
i.postimg.cc/kg5RSTBf/Captura-de-pantalla-2025-09-20-172417.png

This inconsistency shows that I am not lying or imagining things. Sometimes the quest shows up, and sometimes it doesn’t. That means the issue is with quest flags or phasing on my main character, not with addons or my client.

I also want to stress that I did much more than the official support page suggests (Resetting the WoW User Interface). I completely exited WoW, deleted addon managers, renamed Cache/Interface/WTF, and re-launched. But beyond that, I went further:

  • I searched manually in my system for any hidden files or folders related to WoW, Battle.net, and addons.
  • I deleted every single trace I could find.
  • I even used PowerShell commands to remove any leftover Blizzard files.

After a 100% clean reinstall, the problem still persists. This proves the issue has nothing to do with addons or interface resets. It is a much deeper problem tied to my character data at the account/server level, and I really need help to fix it.

The most frustrating part for me is that Blizzard’s responses so far do not acknowledge that I may have a real account-level problem. Instead, it feels like the assumption is always that I am mistaken, or that there is no issue on my side. But that is not true — I have already tested and tried everything possible on my end.

From the tone of some replies, and even the “likes” they receive, it almost feels as if people think I am exaggerating or even making things up. I want to be very clear: that is not the case. I am only asking to be taken seriously.

I only play with my main character, Crònós, and this issue has been affecting me not only in the game, but also emotionally. I love WoW and the lore, and this character is my whole journey in the game. Please, I need this to be treated seriously.

ahora me dice que no puedo incluir link en el post cuando antes pude subirlos de ese formato

We are taking this seriously but theres only so much that can be done on the forums vrak can do many things but if ur toon is seriously borked it might need developer intervention. My beat advice play another toon in the meantime.

No one has said otherwise.

No, it doesn’t. Your issue with quest flags is that you are checking the wrong quest ID’s. None of the quest flags you have mentioned have been the correct number, thus you getting the false return. Terise ran all of the correct quest ID’s and none of them are incorrect.

That’s one issue, but not related to the map issue.

The map issue is an add-on interfering. Completely different from the quest flags, but still one that you need to figure out. It’s not a bug on Blizzard’s end. It’s also possible that the add-on has not been updated by the author, and that will almost always cause issues.

This is not related to your issues above, but I continue to stress: this is not the same as uninstalling/reinstalling. Simply deleting folders is not the same as uninstalling. TO completely and successfully uninstall a program, you need to use the Battlenet client or the Windows Remove Program feature.

It wasn’t a 100% clean reinstall, but again, that’s really neither here nor there. This issue has nothing to do with the installation of the client.

Because you don’t. Instead of telling people what ChatGPT tells you the issue is, you really need to listen to the advice that the Blizzard responses have given you.

That is your help. They are trying to help you solve the issue. YOU are the one not acknowledging what you are being told.

As with the above issues, you are making wide assumptions that have no basis in reality. We know you’re having an issue. We are trying to help you.

The problem is, you’ve already arrived at your own incorrect conclusion. Nothing is going to be accomplished this way. You’ve been told what to do and how to proceed. Beyond that, there’s not much more anyone can do for you here.

The clump of quests visible in hillsbrad foothills also happens to me and is not addon related. I don’t think it is a sign of anything being wrong with your character though.

What is the name of that quest she is offering? I do not understand that language and Google translate isn’t helping me much at the moment.

I do not believe that npc offers any official quests. As far as I can recall she’s used for world quests, which are repeatable quests on a cycle. That would explain why she is has one available one day and not another.

All the quests she starts or ends, according to this Wowhead article, are just world quests or the zone PvP world quests and not actual quest chains.

Edit:
Found it!

She was offering this quest. This is the Emissary quest and it hangs around for 3 days. You do four world quests for the faction hosting the Emissary quest and then you get an extra reward. You have three days to do them once they rotate in, and you can see on your zone map for BFA zones which emissary world quests are available. This is why she had the quest available one day for you but not the next, the emissary quest was no longer available to complete.

I checked and I actually have that too. Now that I’m seeing it in game, I do recall seeing it in the past and commenting to a friend who had it too. I had completely forgotten that!
I no longer have any questing add-ons or UI related ones either so I’d agree it’s maybe not add-on related this time.

Questie did do something similar years ago though which is why I uninstalled it. The issue with that one was happening in Northrend though.

Thank you for the detailed reply. I’ve taken into account the corrections you (and Terise) provided:

  • I removed the wrong IDs (Horde-only or WQ/weekly).
  • I now understand that 78597 is Horde and that WQ/weekly IDs are not valid evidence.
  • My baseline chains on Crònós are complete; I only play story/campaign content on this main.

Where I still need help is with two separate issues:

1) Quest-flag credibility (on this character, not alts):
I am no longer citing WQ/weekly IDs. I am sticking to non-repeatable/mainline progress I finished on this character (with dated achievements, Hearthstone bound in rebuilt Gilneas, etc.). If there are specific Alliance IDs you want me to check on this character, tell me which ones and I will test them. I am following forum guidance as precisely as possible.

2) Map overlay bug (Khaz Algar quests clumped in Hillsbrad):
I reproduced this with zero addons after a full UI reset (Cache/Interface/WTF deleted) and a clean reinstall, as per the official Resetting the WoW User Interface guide. For reference, here is the screenshot after doing that clean reset:
i.postimg.cc/3JMxYYMX/Captura-de-pantalla-2025-09-20-182452.png

The problem persists even after that. If this is caused by a specific addon or CVar, please name exactly which one could cause cross-zone quest markers even after a complete reset — I will test it right away. If not, then this points to a client/state issue that needs developer review.

To be thorough, I will repeat an uninstall using the Battle.net uninstaller specifically (as you suggested), even though I already did a full manual clean and reinstall. If the behavior persists again, can we agree this deserves escalation?

I am listening, correcting my mistakes, and following every step given. I am simply asking for a clear path forward — either a precise addon/CVar explanation for the Hillsbrad overlay, or a developer review of my character’s state/phasing. Thank you for taking this seriously.

I have thoroughly checked your character using Wowhead’s profiler. The campfire with the green checkmark (and the text stating “Completada”) indicates it was already completed at least once. Since that is an Emissary quest, as Jeysca has indicated above, those are only active for a limited amount of time. When they come back around, they can be picked up again. Most of them are auto accepted though.

As the others have indicated above (post #32 and post #34), those are not bugs. There are no issues with your character or the UI.

I say this in the most respectful way possible. Please stop using ChatGPT to do your research. It will give you incorrect information, which is now causing the issues you’re experiencing. A lot of the current issues you’re having simply comes down to not understanding how certain quests work. In Battle for Azeroth, there are many quests that are repeatable. Although you may have achievements for doing those quests initially, the C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted function will always return false when the quest is no longer active. It will return true while the quest is active.

Unfortunately, that isn’t something you can request. I know you already have a bug report posted in the correct forum, and that’s the way to have any potential bugs looked at. It is not a way to have a conversation and you will not receive a reply from bug reports.

People are trying to help you here, including Vrakthris. However, with all of the incorrect information from ChatGPT, it’s nearly impossible to assist in any meaningful way.

I do suggest using Wowhead’s Profiler tool that I linked above. That can help you discover which quests you have completed and which quests you still need to do. Just keep in mind that some quests you think you have completed in the past can be repeated and will show as false for the IsQuestFlaggedCompleted function and Incomplete on Wowhead. That is not a bug and simply the way those quests function.

I didn’t see it mentioned, but when you did the UI reset . I hope that you restarted your computer after removing the addons folder including after uninstalling WoW. As unless you did you didn’t do a full reset. Windows does silly things like reinstalling files when you just do it any other way. Also avoid using chatgpt for this sort of situation. Even when I have had problems AI has only ever given me half the answer or out of date information and only correct on specific technical PC troubleshooting problems.

I think all the use of AI in this particular forum post is actually causing most of your problem. If English is not your preferred language please use your own language and explain the problem without the use of AI. This is way too bogged down with AI. Keep it simple please.

Cronos, put simply, there is no sync error or phasing issue with your character.

Every single issue you have brought forth has been an issue with your use of Chatgpt and your knowledge of how the game works.

  • World Quests will always say they are unflagged. That is not a bug and is the nature of world quests.
  • There was never a portal to Arathi Highlands in the Boralus portal room. You are misremembering where that portal was.
  • All the quest id flags you were trying were either wrong ids or never applicable to your character to start with, they would have always returned false.

The only two actual bugs you have run into are:

  • Quest markers showing up in Hillsbrad. That is likely a legit bug but has no actual bearing on your character. I have done all the quests (world ranked 3 of quests completed on a character, I’ve done them) and they appear for me. It is just a visual bug and not indicative of a phase or quest error for your character.
  • Phasing issues in the Glades, which Vrak has shown you a Support Article for stating it is an issue they are working on correcting. There is nothing for you to do here and it is not unique for your character.

I really think it’s time you stop focusing on the perceived desync issues with your character (there aren’t any) and just start enjoying playing the game again!

And please, stop Chatgpt. It tells people to literally eat rocks on their pizza. Chatgpt can be helpful but it pulls from the Internet for answers and the problem with the Internet is anyone can post there and feed it wrong information. For WoW specifically, it will pull from every version of the game or reddit thread where people are misinformed or just wrong, or there has been sweeping game changes between then and now.

As Delgan said above, if English is hard for you to organize your thoughts in, maybe find a WoW forum or Discord in your native language that can help you better understand the nuances of the game.

You have this very complicated theory about what is wrong with your character, and I think it is obscuring what is actually important: What is it that you want to do with your character that you are unable to do? Because so far I have only seen two things:

  • You did not see the activities you expected in Arathi. This is not a bug, it’s normal for the weeks when the warfront is in Darkshore.
  • You are having trouble accessing certain phases or activities in Tirisfal Glades. This probably is a bug, but it isn’t something wrong with your character - it is affecting many people.

The other things you have mentioned are not actual problems with your character. For example: Suppose we are all wrong and the portal used to be in the portal room. Okay, but it’s on the dock now for everyone - not just you! - and it works. So even if it moved, it moved for everyone, so this is not a sign of something wrong with your character specifically.

So, again: what is it that you want to do in game that you can’t do? That is what we all really want to fix, right?
