Subfactions

Covenants are a cool idea in theory. I think extending some of these elements to the Horde and Alliance would go far into reinvigorating some of the world and identity.

Example: In Vanilla/classic Onyxia was able to sow discord with the Stonemasons’ Guild leading to a dungeon and changing the dynamic within Stormwind.

Having subfactions within Orgrimmar and Stormwind like the Stonemason guild, could add political intrigue, storytelling opportunities that act independent/self contained to the main story, create mystery (maybe meet within secret part of Storwind/Orgrimmar, find secret artifacts) they could have their own missions to tease future stories, cosmetics, etc. It would create RP opportunities. Certain factions could be for or against each other, pledge and grind your reputation). Still loyal to the Horde/Alliance but also bring their self interest to the table. Community events, intrafaction temporary conflict, provide an excuse to visit certain cities and team up for specific quests.

Anyway feel there is a lot of potential space to explore here. Let me know what you think, why it will or won’t work or anything else you feel appropriate.

Cheers

I think they should split the horde into two and have three factions for certain zones, and also allow neutral guilds, where any faction can join. But if you enter one of the war zones while flagged, you could kill a guildy. If not flagged, everyone should be friendly and no factions visible.

When I leveled my druid during BC, Wrath, Cata, etc. I always loved the druid lore and the idea that Night Elves and Tauren could work together in the Cenarion Circle. Same with shamans and the Earthen Ring. Would be great if there were cross-faction opportunities like that in the game instead of it being a concept that isn’t fully realized in-game.

WoW is full of neutral factions. Would be great if we could join them on a permanent basis.

Thanks for the great replies and ideas guys. It’s a common topic, and there is a lot of factions in the game, even within a main faction (Horde has undercity [lol had], thunderbluff etc) you have components.

And I like what Thorland or Nui suggested maybe old world neutral factions (like the idea of class or race based ones too) but also ones specific to Alliance and Horde that would host events and give a reason to visit the old world and give people identity.

Like I am a Night Elf Druid of the Cenarion circle. Or an undead Warlock who is member of the banker’s association. Neutral or Faction based subfaction that lasts longer than the current expansion.

Imagine doing quests for the stonemasons. Negotiating compensation, mining or just donating ore to them, hosting feasts where they give specific transmogs or tabard. Be a member in good standing.
