Didnt they already do something similar in borrowed power or whatever it was called?
Ron Howard voice: WoW did not do this.
Aye, ESO is the best lore elder scrolls game out there. Mechanic and freedom wise, not as much but it has vastly more freedom than majority of MMOs but as an elder scrolls lore game, it is so good.
Path of the Titans was announced for Wrath of the Lich King and ended up on the cutting room floor. It was supposed to add this kind of functionality.
Wouldnât it be better to add more / flesh out the hero system more?
In many ways the hero talents are a subclass anyways, or at least one that would make immediate sense for WoW, especially how (at least in my short sighted view) the classes appeared to be organized. So I canât say it couldnât work or couldnât be cool, but I guess I just imagine making the hero talent system more impactful / more options, would be a more successful way to add sub-classes (that is already in motion too).
I suppose we could argue the hero system is more of an ascendancy (like in PoE), but I imagine it could be viewed conceptually similarly enough to call it a sub-class akin system. I also think these ascendancy systems can do better here as then youâre designing an enclosed system that doesnât have to worry about all the other classes then, which makes for a more stable surface to modifyâŚ
I think it would cost opportunity if you opened it up too much, because youâd not get a cool themeâd skill for your class if they could argue that all you have to do is âslot hunterâ if you wanted that. For example, if there were warlocks that didnât summon pets and everyone argued just slot hunter to have pets⌠instead of doing it right like it is done here with demon specific pets. So rather than allowing spillover of someone elses stuff and getting âgood enoughâ, I think it would be better to have it intentionally designed for that class via the class itself and then itâs ascendancy options⌠this way it is particular to the gameplay mechanics of that class, and can be the best theme of that idea that it hopefully can be.
Itâs a cool idea, and better reflects the lore of a world than idiotic pure gameplay nonsense like modern WoW.
Would be nice, but there should be restrictions. Like things that only a DK or DH can do shouldnât be available to everyone. A priest shouldnât be pulling out Fel magic. A paladin most definitely shouldnât be using Fel or Death or Void.
I could mix mage and warrior, and finally have my melee mage.
I donât think WOW should go that route of adding other classes to the mix on each character⌠and honestly hope they never do.
Man, i loved symbiosis in MoP, it allowed me to cast a druid hot on myself when i was out in the world doing stuff, it was amazing for farming Warbringers for mounts/material baggies.
ESO has a lot of things I really like to see in WoW, like color or VFX changing abilities in your classes.
WoW only release green fire for one class only and try with Glyphs yet they have not updated system in some time.
Now that they are updating the Classes not just visually but also with the Hero specs I can totally see them as a way to introduce a pseudo subclassesâŚ
I think WoW even try this in MoP when warlocks could off-tank with Demonology, heal with Affliction and I remember other classes could do similar things like that too⌠Many of the Proving Grounds challenges became unable to be completed by the next expansion where they rollback to the old roles again.
I see no problem for WoW to use the new Hero Specs to re-add this pseudo subclasses again where in MoP they literally added them directly.
Not going to lie, Iâll be returning to my Vampire Necromancer to try these combinations, I have a few builts in mind I want to test with Arcanist skill lines, while we wait on WoW down time.
ESO has this?
Jeez, Blizzard needs to step it up.
No, it really doesnât
Yeah I really want all those things in WoW if Iâm really being honestâŚ
I literally play ESO because I donât have those things here⌠like being a actual functional (gameplay wise and visually, not just a skin condition or behind a Class) Vampire Necromancer⌠and now I can change some my Necromancers spells to look like Blood Magic to match the Vampires Vampiric skill line of powers!
Well at least we getting updates for Classes old VFX, hero specs and housing⌠so thereâs that. Maybe someday I will have the other stuff I can do in ESO here in WoW and I wont have to pay to play both⌠who knows? For now Iâll just play ESO in WoWâs downtime.
i really thought they were going to use the hero talents as a means to do sub classes. its a let down that this was all they did with it sofar.
really? at the very least i still see 3 pallys in t2 and at least 1 druid in t2 both in either the og or the new one at least once a day.
that would probably be the closest i could get to playing a druid of the fang. swap my bleeds for poisons
was it? i dont remember hearing any actual info about path of the titans just random rumors
it would be nice if they did this but i feel like a bunch of them wouldnt work as well fleshed out with how it was designed it would need a overhaul for some.
I donât want other classes abilities, or âcross-speccingâ. I understand the homogenization that Blizz has had to adopt for the sake of balancing the competitive aspects of the game, but I feel the game ultimately loses out on a lot of potential that way. The Legion class halls really nailed the feeling of class identity and I would love more development aimed at fostering that feeling.
Personally, I think Blizz missed an opportunity to (more elegantly) add hero specs when the level cap was 100. Instead of going up to 110 then 120 they could have added hero classes for each class (agnostic of individual spec) to further amplify gameplay and class identity.
E.g. mages could become a battlemage, which would emphasize melee spells & auto attacks, or a Magister which would increase cast times in exchange for bigger numbers but could have a straight up teleport ability.
Hmmm. . . . how about the ability to summon a greater variety of minions at will similar to Warlocks. However, they would be a selection of undead that would add to what we (death knights) can already do. It would finally cement the fact that Death Knights are the necromancers that have been in the game since Wrath. Simply put: it would increase our arsenal of undead minions.
FF14 might be toying around with the idea too since subjobs will be part of that next field exploration content, Occult Crescent.
FFXIV got rid of cross-class abilities I think in HW or SB. I donât think they will bring something like sub-job into the game.
This is identical to designing classes with a shared set of abilities.
In the end, the result is the same as talent trees. You will pick from a set of âconfigurationsâ the developer has planned out for you.
The only difference is the developer now has to constrain themselves with thinking up these shared abilities instead of just designing an ability from scratch to work with a class.
Itâs important to maintain class fantasy and identity.
ESO is a different game and its classes skills and combat feel very much the same from one to the other to the point of boredom imo.
I like WoWâs combat far and above all other MMORPGs.
