Sub/Assassin mobility is soooo bad compared to Outlaw

I’ve finally gotten over the main hump of playing rogue lately with Outlaw. Finally to the point where my gear is basically capped to vaults, so I started working on an Assassination set to try that spec out…

…but damn is it so hard to play that spec after getting used to Outlaw with Grappling Hook.

I get that Shadow Step is the mobility skill those specs get instead of hook, but it just feels like such a poor tradeoff.

On Outlaw, I feel faster than a DH. On Assassin, it feels like playing a priest.

Shadow Step is actually the better mobility tool. I swapped to velf for those few moments i actually do need the ability to choose my endpoint.

Eh, grappling hook is only really good traversing weird terrain in open world imo. It’s janky and bugs a lot (cooldown goes off but it doesn’t launch). I prefer Shadowstep for more combat oriented activities.

Shadow step is way better.

Shadowstep…moves you to your target. Pretty much the place where the bad AoE mechanics that you need to avoid are.

Grappling hook also moves you to your target if you need, but also gets you away from any mechanics you need to avoid.

And it’s still useable without any targets.

If you like it, more power to you, but I just don’t see it.

If you have any ranged player in your party, clicking their nameplate beforehand will have the same effect as grappling hook with less movement.

Grapple is the superior movement ability, when it works. Anytime it fails is the most rage inducing thing.

Personally I think it should be a a talent choice for all rogues. Grappling hook/ shadow step. Let us pick the one that suits our play style rather than forcing us into what they think preserves the spec genre they are trying to push.

Shadow step can be used for enemies or allies so I think it has the edge. Grappling Hook has its moments when it works lol.

But two charges and it fails twice feels really, really bad. So bad I want Cloak and Dagger talent back or Burst of Skill.

100% agree with this. Makes me miss the MoP style of talent tree, but it could easily just be a choice node on the current one.

Also, even putting aside the Shadowstep vs Grapple Hook debate, having Restless Blades on Outlaw makes mobility so much better. Switching off Outlaw and having to wait the full cooldown duration on sprint is so rough.
