So, what I’ve been reading online is that sub rogues are “trash”, but the top rogues in raiderio for mythic+ are all mainly sub.
Can someone clear up my confusion as to how well sub performs in raids and mythic+?

Generally Sub is doing really good in 9.1 patch in both Raids and M+. I heard (non confirmed by solid data), Sub performance is placed slightly behind Sin, and Outlaw is below the both.
But remember, if you don’t play high end level content like 20 M+ or Mythic Sanctum of Domination, play the spec you like, and most important, enjoy the game rather than forcing yourself to play spec you haven’t fun with.
Peace!
Ah, I see. Thank you very much for the information. I’ll still be debating which spec to play though, haha.
Thanks again!
Sub is great. All three rogue specs are doing well tbh and most people’s (including my own) biggest limiting factor will be their own ability.
Thanks for the post. I think I’m going to give sub a try and see how I react to it.
Yes, please do, you might find you made a meaningful choice. I avoided it because I thought it only functioned well in pvp, I had plans to do both so sin seemed more appropriate.
I started sin, but switched to sub because I found the play style to be more engaging, I love being able to quickly dump damage as opposed to ramping. I’m not sure if there’s a complexity to it but I enjoy the way the spec flows, with many APM, primarily focusing on burst windows, finishers.
Plus I feel as if sub has a ton of survivability compared to the other two. Not sure if that’s factual, but with slice and dice conduit heal, crimson vial, fleshcraft, and soothing darkness, I can top myself off pretty quickly if needed.
What about Mobility? Seems Outlaw is by far the best because of grappling hook… its the only spec that has that right? Do either of the other 2 have an extra movement?
Oh yeah, looking at sub’s abilities, it seems super bursty. It also seems to have a more engaging rotation, like you mentioned, so I’m looking forward to that.
Yeah I’m learning sub on this character and I have gotta say, the rotation is really engaging and super fun, and is indeed bursty which adds some fun layers. It has a level of complexity I find enjoyable (except for like 5-6+ mobs but even then it’s still been super fun), gonna be fun to do endgame stuff as sub this patch imho
Me, too. I love the class’s gameplay, and am going to stick with it.
For what it’s worth.
You can actually play Sin and Sub with almost no sacrifice to either spec.
Set Sin to use Nadjia. Set Sub to use Theotar. The new Obedience legendary is supposed to be top rated for both specs. And both specs are using the same Domination shards.
The only real sacrifice is acquiring gear for both specs.
I have Sin set up as my main spec and Sub as an alternate. All I do is click a few buttons to change specs and swap gear and I’m good to go. I play whichever I’m in the mood for.
I was actually thinking about the transition from sub to sin. Good to know they’re somewhat easy to switch between.
I told people that Sub would be fine in patch 9.1. Both in PVE and PVP.
Don’t listen to those that over react.

This is me except I also play outlaw. Like in raids I go outlaw for trash then sin / sub for bosses then do M+ as outlaw. Lol good patch for rogues.
sub rogue gameplay in a nutshell
Set up cc for mage

OH DRS ARE OFF. Sets up cc for mage again

Everybody is switching to Sub for M+ because it got massively buffed and Outlaw can’t keep up because they literally refuse to ever buff the spec since it has gouge as an ability. If your tank is pulling like an actual tank then Sub just dumpsters Law because of 8 target cap vs 5. It’s not even close. The gap will only grow in size once people start getting Sylv daggers.
right, sub is at its weakest when your group is slow and cautious. sub wants massive aoe and single target. nothing in between please
I still think we need garrote, gouge, and a shadowstrike cleave talent.
Yes absolutely and some raid wide utility!

All rogues have sprint baseline, Outlaw has grappling hook while Sub and Sin have Shadowstep - which teleports you behind the target.
In some cases grappling hook is better since you get to pick where you go (but it requires targeting and has an animation time and in others shadowstep is better because it’s instant and puts you where you want to be to continue dps’ing.
