I’m trying to learn Sub for like the first time ever. There is something I don’t understand though.
Once you use Shadowdance, it switches your action bar to the stealth one. We have so many “stealth required” abilities that I don’t necessarily have room for finishers on it.
Am I supposed to just be spamming Shadowstrike regardless of how many combo points I have? Or should I be using any finishers during the 5 second Shadowdance window if I cap combo points?
Thanks for the help!
Sub is the hardest rogue to pick up but it’s fairly simple once you get the mechanics right. When you shadowdance you have to make sure to previously have used all your combo points (in order not to waste them) and you have to be at 70 energy to not run out while you’re still dancing. Then, when you get in shadow dance you do shadow strike two times, evis with whatever points you got and repeat again. You can get 4 shadow strikes and 2 evis per dance to make it the most optimized

Awesome, thank you! This is what I needed.
In my case…
I have my stealth bar (main bar) set up. 1 - 10 bar
I have my unstealthed bar (main bar) set up. 1 - 10 bar
Some abilities that I use both in and out of stealth are in the same position. So when the bar swaps, I can hit the same button to do the move I want regardless of in or out of stealth. Some examples…Cloak, Blind, etc.
My finishers are on my “alternate bar” (top left) and I set them as ALT + whatever number. So in or out of stealth, that bar doesnt change.
Take some time to setup your hotkeys / buttons / abilities for IN and OUT of stealth. This way you can be sure on comfortable in what you are hitting regardless of what state you are in.
I made a sub Guide on reddit a few months back. Some of this has changed a bit with the new azerite traits but this should be a good starting point for you.
About keybinds/stealthbar:
This is tricky to get setup correctly. If you are used to having stealth specific abilities on 1-5 on your stealth bar you will run into problems with Sub. Sub requires using all of your dps abilities while in shadow dance. So as painful as it is, it is worthwhile to bind your “stealth required” abilities somewhere other than the stealth bar.
An alternative is a shadow dance macro for all of your abilities. I used one for a while that would put number 3 as Sap during actual stealth, but would change to eviscerate during shadow dance or no stealth. This was useful for a while but eliminated the possibility of eviscerating from stealth/vanish. I had to retrain my muscle memory a bit but I currently have no stealth specific abilities on my main bar anymore.
Note: I also made a video during that time for the rotation in the guide above. You can see my old macro in action on button 3.

It would be good if Blizzard allowed Shadowdance to be recognized as a separate stance from stealth by macros - I think macros used to work like this. This would solve all OPs problems . But I guess Blizzard thinks this would make things too easy.
