If you feel that Blizzard is failing to live up to the expectation set by Ion Hazzikostas and the Classic team when they state their design philosophy is to “deliver an authentic experience,” and “[have a] high priority on integrity of social dynamics.” I have bad news; our venting on the forums probably won’t be cared for by Blizzard.
Shouting here feels nice, but if the discussion leading up just to PvP for BFA on the forums was any indication it is that they are not listening, and will not engage when it is not convenient for them.
So what can you do? What makes Blizzard notice you are not happy with their product?
Cancel your subscription, and state the changes to Classic WoW drove your decision (be it the backpedal on sharding/“layering,” the negative effects sharding/layering has on server communities, ability to pay to reserve names, abandonment of design philosophy stated by blizzard, whatever it may be).
This is a tall order for many of you still enjoying retail or who have some dependence from your guild, but if you were a wavering fan like me who has felt out of touch with retail for a long time and only regained interest at the prospect of going back, it’s time to make a move.
I never expected we would get 100% of the same experience, but the changes are simply going too far from what Blizzard outlined for us about Classic. I have asked myself too many times “what else do I have to give up” in favor of an easier experience before I boycott their product? Unfortunately, I found the line on the same day we get a release date.
Vote with your dollar like a good consumer does. You were told you would get a certain product, you are not getting that product, so now it’s up to you to spend your money somewhere else.
Yup let’s listen to a population that literally knows next to nothing about server management and ignore a company full of experts that have 15 years of experience and 15 years of mistakes to look back on with server management, because little Bobby and Tyler don’t like the idea of not having a private server 20k person launch experience.
I don’t like it either dude but let’s face it, they know better than you or I. Period. You can whine all you want this will never be not true. And given this is their first real clean slate on a server management project I’d say they know exactly how to manage it
i’ll stay subbed and happily play Classic WoW. I’ve been playing Scuffed AF p servers for years, i’m so keen for Classic. ‘layering’ is way less of an issue than dynamic respawns, p2w, hackers, cheaters, corrupt GM’s, poorly scripted bosses, dodgy AI mob pathing, etc… which plague every p server imo.
They do. After many failures over the years, I’m sure they have a great idea on how to break servers apart for the best result in performance.
This does not equate in any way what is best for delivering a “classic experience.” There was no sharding in vanilla. The team explicity, and multiple times stated their dedication to maintain the vanilla experience including the community aspect. Sharding directly effects the community aspect, and it is against the core philosophy they stated was their goal with the product.
They are not meeting the expectations they set with their own words on what the product would be like.
I don’t care what the best way to run a server is, I care what product was stated I would be receiving and then being told I am not getting that product.
I’m pretty sure a large portion of the people here in this forum is currently unsub (and not playing BDA anyway) till Classic release, so kinda hard to cancel the sub that they never had in the first place to protest.
Also I suspect Blizzard got more beta test candidates than they have slots for so even if a few people pulled out, it only helps the existing candidates.
I’ve played on 5 or 6 p servers over the years and they all suffered from some of these issues, some obviously had more than others. Retail just has a polish that p servers can’t match.
