was playing Classic WoTLK last night and before I went to bed it apparently started an update. I wake up this morning and the button still says ‘updating’ but it’s just saying Initializing without any progress. It’s been on 0% and a small bit of red but doesn’t seem to be getting anywhere.
I just had the same issue this morning. I restarted my pc and opened battle.net again and it started downloading and I can play now.
Also had this issue, restarting my pc as mentioned above did the trick.
That worked guys, thanks!
same issue just started happening to me this morning. restarting does nothing. what happened? i was playing yesterday just fine, why does it think there’s an update?
Having the same issue, stuck on Initializing, tried to reset my router, restart my PC, the client, tried just about everything.
Nothing works…
Yup, same issue. Its trying to do a relatively small update. The download starts at a fair clip and quickly drops to zero bandwidth. It literally stalls and stops making all progress. If I restart it, the same thing happens… but since it restarts at a point slightly before it left off previously, I just can’t make any download progress on the update. Its stuck at 99% and won’t budge.
I’ve restarted it like 10 times now, and rebooted the machine twice when the updater app broke and refused to exit. This has been going on for hours.
Had this same issue. Updated my 5700XT driver and restarted and it started working. May have been the restart rather than the update but might check just to be sure.
Try reinstalling battle.net. I had an issue last week where battle.net wouldn’t open and said it couldn’t find a file required. I reinstalled and it worked. Today I got the update stuck at initializing, but a restart fixed it for me. Maybe reinstalling battle.net will fix it if restart doesn’t. I don’t know what is going on with battle.net lately.
well, it seems like a recent update to agent.exe is what was causing my problems. i’m on linux so it might be a niche solution but if anyone else is using linux here you go https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/xgb5fx/comment/iowrno8/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
I can’t get the Battle.net app to do anything. It won’t install the update for the PTR, just sits there at initializing for an hour.
Tried to scan/repair, it did nothing.
Tried to uninstall the PTR, it did nothing…
Manually removed the PTR folder, restarted the B. net app, tried to “Install” the PTR, and it says it can’t do that while attempting to uninstall the PTR…
Seems to be completely inoperable.
Didn’t work for me. I rebooted twice/even turned it off.
I hope you get an answer because I am having the exact same issues. I played last night.
Same thing is happening to me right now : I could play this morning but when I came back to my computer tonight it started updating and now it’s stuck on Initializing.
Sometimes this can be an ISP caching issue.
Connecting to a VPN fixed it for me.
Same issue on retail. I both uninstalled the launcher AND uninstalled my driver and let Windows reinstall automatically after a reboot of the computer. Worked as soon as I opened the launcher. Not sure if it was one or both, but I tried just the launcher, nothing. Then the driver and got joy. Good luck!
legend. this led me to a fix.
i was thinking i would have to use my windows vm for wotlk launch ![]()
This worked for me, too! Thank you!
Same issue on my computer and my wife’s… both stuck at initializing. Different laptops, different graphics cards… note sure what to do. Rebooted both machines multiple times.
Rebooting my router got it fixed. Not sure why that was needed, but it worked.
