I’ve had minimal issues playing the game since the big patch, but today I repaired my files via B.net app and ever since then I’m unable to login as it tells me I have to update and then I get hit with a popup that says “Oops something happened, try again” or something along those lines along with this error code. BLZBNTAGT00000BB8.
I’ve tried everything short of reinstalling the game itself to include deleting and reinstalling b.net and deleting a few folders that were suggested by people with similar problems but nothing appears to be working. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you.
First, try running the game as administrator. To do so, click on Options, go to Show in Explorer. This will open the folder where the game is installed. Then right click on the WoW.exe icon, go to Properties and on the Compatibility tab click Run as administrator. Repeat the process for the Blizzard app.
If that doesn’t solve the issue, let’s force the app to repair the game. Click Options once again and Show in Explorer, then navigate to this folder: \World of Warcraft\Data\data. There you delete all files ending in .IDX. If you see a file named CASCRepair.mrk, delete that as well. Go back to the main folder (retail or classic) and delete the UTILS folder. Then launch the app and it should work to rebuild the folders.
If these two steps do not work then try reinstalling the game because we are to a point of the game being to corrupt to fix.
I appreciate the response, but after I uninstalled and went to reinstall it, I get that same error I had before right off the bat. So, I’ve no idea where to go from there.
i had this problem on patch day, im unsure what exactly fixed it. but i uninstalled bnet app and reinstalled, then i deleted the .idx files and ran the app as admin as joynueer stated. i also opened task manager and ended task battle net updater agent and i also had a bunch of microsoft edge processes open and just started killing those. i dont use ms edge.
Give what Thordine said a go, the app might need to be completely reinstalled after deleting the extra folders, then try it in admin.
· Press the Windows Key+R on keyboard
· Type %ProgramData%
· Hit enter
· Delete Blizzard Entertainment and Battle.net Folders
· Empty Recycle Bin
· Uninstall and reinstall the app, please reinstall onto the C drive
If that doesn’t work try turning your Internet equipment off for a minute then boot it back up and see if that helps out.
I’m at a complete loss. I did all the both of you suggested and when I went to do a fresh install, I got the error immediately and then it gets caught in an update loop all over again which makes no sense since I had deleted the game.
It’s initializing with a bunch of numbers with parenthesis. The button says update though instead of install, so I’m doing my best to keep my hopes tempered.
I’ve been having the same problem for 2 days. It is infuriating, I can’t install the game because it just keeps going back into initializing over and over.
I did all of that and now Battle.net File Switcher keeps asking for permissions
–Update–I tried the process 3 times and every time Battle.net File Switcher kept asking for permissions. After the 3rd time it finally started downloading
Was having same issue, had no problems Friday 11/18, then Saturday morning encountered this issue. Uninstalled Battle.net app and WOW, then reinstalled. Had to reconfigure a whole bunch of addons (even tho I saved and repl my WTF and Addons folders). Then, later on Saturday I tried to launch the game again and ran into same issue. Incredibly frustrating. Followed Joynueer’s instructions and the Bnet app ran the “scanning files” again…to 100%. A short file download/update, and now playing again. Fingers crossed…but something in the update process is broken.
And now I get "The CAS system was unable to initialize: Tact instance creation failed.
Error (1): unknown failure
Tact instance creation failed. Error (1): unknown failure
I’ve tried to uninstall bnet, reinstall, tried to download in administrator, restarted comp, anything else I’ve seen. I tried to turn off auto-updates, it still tries to update before the game is downloaded. It runs the initializing loop, won’t download the game, then goes back trying to update. I’ve been trying to get it to work 3 days now. This is unbelievably frustrating.
