Game will not load, because the updater is stuck on initializing. Deleted the cache, interface and WTF files, but that did nothing. I use no addons. All drivers are up to date. Why does this keep happening? Paused the updates and tried the scan and repair, but it gets stuck on waiting for another update. Will not let me uninstall until the updates are complete. Good grief.

Me too - no add ons, have to scan repair ect. Been happening every time - so frustrating!
It seems the only fix, for me atleast, is to leave the update on initializing for 35-45 minutes, it will eventually budge.
You can close battle.net launcher then go task manager close remaining apps then restart should probably fix it.
Same issue for me: Intitializing (367/367 Bytes) and it just hangs there.
The suggested ideas in this thread did not work so far: killing the processes, restarting. Now I’m trying the “wait 35-45 minutes” method.

I finally got past the initializing after letting it sit, as long as the update agent is using network in your task manager, its moving, very slowly lol. 
Same thing always happens to me when there is an update. I force quit anything blizzard especially the Battle.net update agent and then start again, that always does the trick for me.
It took about four hours, but the update finally loaded. Logged in, picked up a quest and the game froze as soon as the cut scene started. Sigh.
