Stuck in an endless intialising updating loop BLBNTAG00000B88

My WoW retail has been a bit iffy for the past couple of weeks since one of the major updates. Didn’t have much time to play so I just thought, okay, lots of updates.

The ‘scanning’ went longer and longer. Then it patched. Fine. Until yesterday.

Now it just scans for ever, the goes ‘update’ followed by ‘Whoops! Looks like something broke. Give it another shot’ BLBNTAG00000B88

I’ve spent 4 hours yesterday following the advice on the link and when that didn’t help, scouring forums and posts and so fort.

I’ve uninstalled the battlenet app and reinstalled. DIdn’t help. Uninstalled WoW. Clicked ‘install’ and it went straight to ‘updating’, ‘initialising’ getting stuck on some number there. Several instances of Update agent running, even in task manager, can’t shut them down for more than a few seconds. Running as administrator didn’t help.

So I’ve uninstalled the game. Uninstalled the app. Cleared every single folder on my PC with anything Blizzard, battlenet etc. Then I emptied the recycle bin. Restart. Reinstall the app.

Finally, downloading 80GB of game.

Then it worked for a while this morning. Exit game. Come back a few hours later.

And the SAME thing again.

Update: I thought I’d give it one more try at a full clean install. 80GB be damned.

Made sure all the files were removed, recycle bin emptied, PC restarted.

Congratulations, Blizzard. It’s not not even downloading the game. Goes straight into the initialising loop where it gets stuck around 2145572 2145572

Mine is stuck on initializing and has been for over an hour. Tried every remedy offered on various forums. Nothing is working on my end to get it to work.

Spoke to a friend and theirs was doing the same.

Whats unfortunate is I don’t get to play real often so when I get the chance I need it to work.

Howdy Dreamwing,

Based on what you described, there may be something else on the computer causing a conflict. We often see these types of problems happen due to security software, so you may want to try adding the Blizzard app as an exception in that software.

If that doesn’t help, I’d suggest opening a support ticket with your system files, so we can review the situation. Make sure to include that list of steps you’ve already taken so there isn’t any confusion.

Hi I’ve been having this issue the infinite (2151423/2151423) loop initializing for the past few days. I have uninstalled, re-installed, allowed apps through firewall, disabled firewall/security etc… it will not download/install the game no matter what I do. Battle.net is installed on my C drive the game is installing on another drive which has had no issues in the past… I don’t understand what the issue is… there is nothing else downloading or running in the background either…

I’m having the same issues and I’m just now downloading the game so I can play dragonflight after buying a brand new subscription and trying to get back into playing it. Really disappointed I paid money for something that I can’t even play.

I’ve been pretty much doing all of this - uninstall, wipe EVERY trace off my PC, reinstall both app and game, create new admin account, checked that it had permissions everywhere, updated every conceivable driver. Even deleted about 16 versions of Update Agent out of the firewall and added the current as an exception.

It always seems to have gotten stuck on the update agent getting itself into a knot.

So, yes, I did try to submit a ticket with system files and all. But that’s a whole other story that I’ve posted under ‘You can’t submit this ticket’.

At any rate, I was too busy to do anything about it for the last couple of days and didn’t touch it since Monday. Figured I’d wait until after weekly maintenance.

Lo and behold, today (Thursday) after it did actually run the update instead of looping, it is working. So far anyway. I have not changed a thing anymore on my PC since Monday because I got too frustrated. So maybe the update did something?

Watching it carefully for the moment to see whether this (hopefully) is permanently fixed or just a lucky hit.

It’s not the stupid security features either, Blizzard!

Hello! I recently had issue with this and thought I tried everything. My friends linked me this solution and it worked! This was the last thing I did then I restarted my computer and when I booted back up, it finally broke the updating/initializing loop.

Article ID: 257703 Hope it works for yall too!

I was stuck in a initializing loop as well after uninstalling battle.net from my SSD and re-installing to my new M.2.

I had to start in safe mode and open battle.net then it started downloading the game. Another program must have interfered but I don’t know which one.
