Stuck in a circle - Mage's Rune Of Power

I am going to be very specific about this 1 spell that has bothered me so much for many expansions and I believe it applies to a few other abilities too.

I HATE RUNE OF POWER ON MAGES, but it seems like the best choice for skillfully timing it in both PVP and PVE.

I really really dislike any class ability that makes me feel forced to standing in a certain area. Sure I can sit there and adapt to it but it’s just so not fun feeling like if I move then I lose power. I wouldn’t mind if I had to collapse with team mates into a specific spot if heavy healing was needed but I don’t want to feel like I need to stay there most of the time. Rune of Power always asks me to stay still and I hate it so so much.

Let us be free to act on our own foot. It’s fine if the enemy makes us have to stay in a specific area but don’t force it into our rotation. Technically it’s not forced but I want to play to my best of my ability. I don’t have a suggestion for a replacement of this mechanic but I just wish it wasn’t what it is now.

I use Incanters Flow because it allows for more throughput and given raid fights are so hectic these days… standing in a circle for 10 seconds is difficult. (Looking specifically at King Rasta and Bwonsammiboi)

If you hate rune of power so much, incanters flow and mirror image are your choices. I love rune of power. Really, you should be avoiding moving all that much as a caster anyways so its kinda free damage.

Well you’re a level 20 hunter so it shouldn’t be a problem.

obviously this is an bank alt

You can either play a different talent or not play a mage. Rune of power does not last that long. You should be able to find a time when it is beneficial to use it.

Everyone does.

I take it a step further, I hate incanter’s flow too. Mages should be damage/control gods without either of them.

I can’t help but roll my eyes whenever people cite it as ‘interesting gameplay’, like, no. The best it ever got was when used with Legion arcane, and even that was insufferable.

The hunter class is waiting for you.

Lol jk I agree with you. I never understood why casters can’t move while casting.

MoP was such a great time to be a caster. I don’t know why they dialed it back, it was so fun.

Actually, that’s probably why they dialed it back.

Incanter’s flow is the only talent in the row for me.

Yeah, it’s the best one if you don’t like pressing extra buttons or worrying about when is the best time to press the extra buttons. It’s the lazy route that isn’t bad and still usually out performs mirror image

I dislike Rune of Power as well, but it was basically required when I was PvEing as Arcane. Now that I switched to Frost I feel like it’s slightly more optional and I’m doing fine with Incanter’s Flow.

MoP Warlock was some of the most fun I ever had in this game. xD

As a warlock main since TBC, I quit the class in WoD, knowing it would never, ever be as fun as MoP ever again. >.>

Rune of Power is pretty thematic to mages imo. You could always choose a different Talent.

Every spell is ‘thematic’ to mages, if you stretch it enough.

It’s not good gameplay.

It’s optional gameplay.

Because every one hates class homogenization and MoP was pretty much the peak of that. Every class needed a CC, every class needed an escape, every class needed a buff, ect to the point were MoP was essentially the peak of “Bring the player not the class”.

The main issue with that is when every one is super, no one is one. Basically when every class could bring the same type of thing, then really the only thing you wanted was the best dps.

They did actually announce recently that they have gone too far with the prunning over the years. Prunning too many Nich abilities. I’ll hold my breath however.

I’ve heard that line several times, I’m not really expecting anything until they show us something.

I would argue that Legion/BFA are the peak of that. Everything’s build/spend now. In MoP you still had some unique quirks to each class.

It is completely optional gameplay and it is one of the few talents that actually change gameplay. I would say we should keep it since it is one of the few talents to actually change gameplay and require thoughtput to actually use.

Anyone who actually plays a mage would laugh at this statement.

It changes nothing, you slap it down at certain burst periods, because mages are basically centered around 2m burst windows now, and do zero damage outside of those windows.

Nobody thinks it’s interesting, it’s only taken for pure numbers, if mandated.
