Hello everyone,
Just came back a couple weeks ago and have noticed I’m struggling to pick my main class. I’ve kinda focused on the warlock because it was my first character and I’m decent at warlock.
However I’m noticing I want the option to swap from ranged to melee. Running in and smashing things in open world content and such is fun but most of the classes have one spec I like and then the other is meh. On the other hand I enjoy ranged as I’m learning new fights and dungeons so a ranged/melee hybrid seems to make the most sense
Shaman - enjoying enhancement but elemental feels a bit weak. Maybe I should stick with this? Get some gear?
Druid - I love the idea of the druid but energy starvation on feral is frustrating and boomy feels weird to play.
Hunter - I’m not sure I like survival. Feels like melee BM without the fun pets but marksman is kinda fun
In the past I’ve been a Warrior, DH, DK, and Warlock.
I’m just having trouble deciding what feels best and I’m not sure how to decide.
I would love to stop having the reputation as the one that can’t pick a main
Any suggestions?
When you log on, which is the first one you find your mouse automatically moving towards to log into? Like if you’re just on autopilot, super tired, something like that.
Unfortunately, this isn’t something any of us can really answer. You seem to have a good grasp on the shortcomings of each class so there’s not really much I can offer in that way either. My suggestion is to just pick one and stick with it. Don’t overthink it, and don’t look back. Once you pick one, immerse yourself in it and learn everything you can about the class.
That said, my current main and favorite of those listed is Druid. The capability to fill all 4 roles is great, and once you learn the basics of “druid” as a whole, you can play all 4 specs with ease as there’s a lot of crossover with utility and affinities.
Best of luck to you! It can be hard to make a choice, but as long as you don’t regret the final choice, you’ll be alright with whatever you choose.

When you were a DK, were you Unholy? They mix ranged and melee but you need to talent for it.
Other than that, the only other ranged/melee spec that comes to mind would be Ret Pally.

I was like this. Must have played every single class through Exiles Reach and many beyond. I never even gave survival hunter a second thought. It really is a ranged/melee hybrid. You can send your pet after a mob from 50 yards away, hit em with the poison arrow, harpoon in close for some whacks then jump back out for some grenade hits. It’s so much fun!

Of the three specs, Survival has the greatest DPS potential and BM has the most utility and mobility.
I was BM Hunter for a decade and made the jump to SV just recently and I won’t go back unless there’s a specific need for a Ranged DPS in some group that wants me in it.

I find that when I just want to grab a toon to play for fun for a bit, it’s more often than not, a BM hunter just because of the mobility. Don’t play them for anything higher than low key Mythics though. They are just not a good Mythic class.

Thank you for all the input.
I think it’s going to be shaman. Enhancement is feeling fun and interesting. Elemental is interesting enough to scratch the range itch.
I will be trying the hunter more as some have suggested. Probably as an alt.
Druid will stay an alt as well.
Anywho, thanks all. Appreciate the responses
