Anyone else primarily play melee but desperately want to make the shift to ranged but can’t find a spec that doesn’t bore you? What ranged class do you find the most enjoyable right now?/got you out of this selection slump?
I love melee but the only ranged class I can tolerate and doesn’t bore me is warlock.
hunter, mage, shadow priest: I can’t level any of these due to boredom. I tried to level them many times, but failed every time.
ranged…MM hunter is the most enjoyable at this point in time. Having a frikkin blast with it.
Yes, that was me transitioning to this expac where I wanted to raid. I like spriest and ele shaman a lot. I ended up just choosing mage at the start of shadowlands cause blizzard loves them and they are guaranteed viable every tier.
Hunter and Warlock. But are we talking retail or classic, cause you’re posting on a classic toon. For classic, Mage.
He posted on a retail toon.
I’m with you on that. I get bored of range faster than I do with melee.
Boomkin and MM Hunter are both fun. Although, you should probably go with Boomkin if you like having flexibility and options (tank, heals, DPS, etc).
If you go with Hunter you might have an issue getting into pugs, since Hunters are a dime a dozen. At least with Druid you can go bear and tank while you build up your io/experience/etc.
Druid is also highly-desired in RBGs, so you have a foot in the door there, as well.
Any ranged with a lot of instant casts feels ok. Lock specifically aff lock for example. Hard casting feels awful
BM hunter and demonology Warlock are the 2 I find the most fun.
Bm hunter is the best ranged class that plays ranged like a melee, but easier rotation than any other class melee or ranged in the game.
So I think you might still be bored by it.
Fire mage has some good movement and a fairly intense rotation when it comes to playing it well. You can’t just sit there and spam your buttons. You have to play smart with combustion and moving in and out of range for the best covenant ability.
Moonkin is a pretty complex ranged class, with dealing with 2 strong cooldowns that you want to line up every other time the shorter one is up, along with playing with eclipses that benefit certain situations more.
Balance is a complex rotation with even more complexity added by being a hybrid class.
Anyway, those are my 3 suggestions depending on what you’re looking for. BM high easy–best spec in the game if you want to just enjoy the game and not have to ‘play’ your action bars. Fire Mage bursty and super powerful, if you like managing when to seriously explode things and time your cooldowns. Boomkin complex and tough to master but rewarding and fun when played well. Also, druid best class.
What do you don’t like about the specs that you already tried? What are you looking for in a spec?
Warlock is the most enjoyable for me. But idk if I can deal with having to be stationary while dpsing long term.
I’ve been struggling to find a ranged dps class to play since they got rid of survival hunter in Legion. That’s why I heal now.
i tend to dislike ranged classes but ele shaman would be the most fun imo
I have always rocked MM on this hunter, and I’ve been enjoying it very much so far in SL. But is it exciting?? Well …
The most FUN ranged specs I enjoy are Fire Mage and Demonology Warlock. The rotations have a little more interest and seem to be building toward something. MM hunter is effective, but you might find the rotation pretty unimaginative.
I had played a rogue from vanilla to lich king, then switched to Enh shammy until burnout in WoD. When I started playing again at te stat squish, i rolled this character after dabbling with both lock (mainly aff) and mage (arcane).
I like the utility and complexity of shadow so I’m sticking to it (shunned by current meta notwithstanding). If you want to advance in pvp go fire mage or boomy, since most groups tunnel vision rbg applications, almost regardless of bracket.
But 5-man groups usually get 2 hunters. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
To OP, I suggest you play a Hunter.
Hunter has a lot of abilities to slow/kite/cc mobs. And at the same time could have Pet for micromanaging. It is easy to play Hunter but HARD TO MASTER IT. If you are looking for high ceiling to learn the Class, it’s the Hunter. A veteran Hunter is hundred times better than an average hunter.
And Hunter has an additional activity only them are enjoying it… and that’s collecting their Pets.
How come when people mention range that Elemental always gets left out? It’s probably the most versatile range spec.
When you’re melee addict then enhancement is the only choice and 1000% more fun than the other two.
