Does it make the game feel bigger?
What happened last time Blizzard moved abilities to an external system? We got artifact weapons, and all the people who were so sure that when the artifacts were depowered our abilities would either be baked back into our specs or moved to azerite gear got a nasty surprise at the end of Legion.
You donât have to think Blizzard is evil to be capable of basic pattern recognition.
Itll be ok.
Yes there is a thread on the PTR forum about it. Several people have reported it, and also reported as well they are unable to mount in the water once they are in.
Look for the Angler/Water Strider Feedback thread
Your right I think I did one set of dailys and then bought a bunch of rep tokens with timewalking badges.

This is exactly the reason I wanted a single place that captures all of these things. Thanks for the heads up!
God forbid there be an advantage for players that go back to old content/participated in the content when it was current. Fake MMO.
Itâs not even an advantage. Anyone can get it, and with the equipment, anyone else can bypass the rep grind and just pay for it.
And the solution is staring right in the face, let it keep waterwalking and get no equipment slot
Exactly - simple and easy.
They could solve a lot of argument by just leaving the strider alone and treat it like they are doing the Golem. I understand why they want to remove it because you could anti-daze and walk on water with one mount still making it the go-to but heck I can do that now with resounding protection.
I love my bug. Itâs my favorite mount I have and I use it for everything ground.
I does make me wonder because I could use the waterwalking equipment on my mounts. Per character I can use my tailor with anti daze stitching on her cloak, horse shoes that give her extra mount speed plus horse shoes that let her interact with things while staying mounted. So unless they are taking that stuff away we can already stack bonuses.

This is a common response to this change, in addition to the class benefits for DKâs/Shaman.
I agree with leaving the strider alone.
Then keep using it nothing changes for you.
A big issue is that we have to buy back what we already have - and the cost increases the more characters one has. Imagine a loyalty program where you had to pay more based on how much more you put into a companies product.
Why donât they just keep water walking but also get an equipment slot also. I donât own a water strider but Iâd be o.k. with them getting an equipment slot same as other mounts.

lol of course you would be ok - so would I!
But theyâre trying to prevent the overlap of abilities/equipment so that there isnât a âsuper mountâ that can do it all.
Ideally 1 mount can at most do 1 thing.
If you want other abilities, you currently have to layer on class abilities (DK/Shaman) and/or barding items and potions that may grant additional functionality.
Keeping the water strider ability but restricting use of the equipment (like the golem) keeps the strider in tact across an account without having to invalidate the work people put in to get it while also not charging players to get back what theyâve already earned.
Makes water walking easier to obtain for players without the Anglers Rep.
How do you arrive at this ? I thought people still had to earn the rep.

I think they have 2 options - they can buy the equipment from the vendor OR they can buy the item from professions.
I donât think that one is going to be made by professions. Do you have actual information on that ?
Nice list, OP.
Have we had any confirmation of whether or not water walking potions and other things we can currently use right now will be removed or inapplicable once the mount equipment exists? As in, if I use the anti-daze on all mounts, can you still use a water walking potion?
Water walking is being ânerfedâ with this change (awaiting confirmation) - on the PTR it is breaking with fall damage, where currently it does not. Players are also experiencing issues with getting a mount to walk on the water when they mount after already entering the water.
These are issues that exist with water walking nowâŠ
Players have to pay 40 gold per character that does not have the exalted reputation to get back water walking. Players with more characters get punished and charged the most to regain what they currently have.
They report I heard was that all characters 100+ were getting one in the mail as long as they had the mount.
The Water Strider is losing itâs passive water walking ability so that it can use Mount Equipment. (Many players would prefer if their Water Strider was left untouched instead)
Which is the entire point of the equipment system. It is coming out because of the Water Strider.
It breaks the fundamental nature of a water strider bug (to stride across water), which kills immersion and kills the motivation of players to work for new items that are released in the game for fear that theyâll be taken away whenever Blizzard feels thereâs a âproblemâ that needs to be fixed.
No what kills immersion is just seeing these bugs everywhere. Also get water walking for it and it is the same.
This sets a precedent for Blizzard to remove existing account-wide functionality; e.g. if looted mounts were restricted to only being used on the character that looted the mount, or if heirloom gear was only usable on the character that purchased the items.
That precedent has been set for a while (since day 1 actually). There are character specific and faction specific mounts already.
This, unfortunately, supports âaccusationsâ of Blizzard being greedy and not being in touch with itâs player base by forcing their customers to pay for a feature they already earned and have been using for years.
How is paying a trivial amount of in game gold âgreedyâ? Seriously lol.
Blizzardâs inability to answer direct questions about the system and other options that would meet the goals intended while alleviating the concerns voiced by the players continues to build distrust in the true intentions behind the changes.
What questions are you asking that they did not answer?
The change will allow Blizzard to restrict water walking in the future by making the equipment âunusableâ in selected zones/expansions going forward - further removing the functionality that players earned when they got the Strider.
A strawman, they could just remove it right now with out going through the convolution of adding a new system.
Players that currently have the Water Strider will have to travel to the MoP vendor each time they need to buy more of the equipment and ship it to their alts - adding time (in addition to cost) to regain what they currently have.
Literally complaining about minutes spent traveling in gameâŠ
In the end - the conâs outweigh the proâs
No because most of the conâs are made up nonsense.
Players have to pay 40 gold per character that does not have the exalted reputation to get back water walking.
Oh god, 40 gold? What a ball buster!

The waterstrider is literally one of the main reasons mount equipment and this change is being implemented. Blizzard doesnât want one mount that can do this that everyone has to get and one that can do that. They want mounts to be chosen by the player, not by what skills they are able to use.

Get the water walking mount equipment. Thatâs what itâs for.

Theyâve actually gone in the opposite direction if you havenât been aware. Maybe you never got an 1800 rated RBG wolf or enough 3v3 wins for a vicious sattle, but they used to be specific to characters and thatâs just one example.
Blizzardâs been making more and more things account wide like tabards. Remember when you had to re-grind the rep on any character you wanted to wear it on?
All this fear mongering just so people can have a mount with water walking AND all their other mounts to have some other affix is ridiculous.
This, unfortunately, supports âaccusationsâ of Blizzard being greedy and not being in touch with itâs player base by forcing their customers to pay for a feature they already earned and have been using for years.
Which they are, but theyâve also done tons of stuff in the opposite nature of greed. Remember when they nerfed XP across the board every expansion thatâs come out almost instead of keeping it the same and trying to force character boosts on people? And when it was TOO easy buffed it? And when it was too hard nerfed it back again? Theyâre greedy no doubt, but Itâs in the form of putting things like mounts, pets, toys, character x-fers, name changes, etc. which is what people really should be complaining about.

Fear mongering.
Treat the Strider like the Sky Golem and have it retain itâs ability while NOT benefiting from the new equipment slot.
Not an option, because this whole mount equipment was to get away from having one mount for each requirement.
Treat the equipment on a by account basis, by mount - which would mean players would have to buy multiple pieces of the same equipment to get the benefit across multiple mounts - but affords the players more choice and options.
Makes the most sense so far.
Make the new mount abilities specific to mount classes - providing more options of water walking, herb picking, etc., mounts for players to choose from.
Strongly disagree with this. I donât want to be forced to use a specific set of mounts to do specific things, which is what Blizzardâs trying to do with mount equipment. Not make people feel like the Waterstriderâs the best / only mount to use.
You should change the name of this thread to âAttempting to make mount equipment look bad so I can keep water walking AND all the other mount equips as wellâ
