So, the little bit of time that I got to play the stress test this morning was legitimately the most fun I’ve had in WoW in years.
Northshire valley was a mess. Every spawn was completely camped. I grouped up with people and managed to finish a couple quests, but then decided to leave due to overcrowding. I was only level 3, so doing anything outside of Northshire solo wasn’t really feasible.
I ran down to Goldshire, and found a priest who was only level two. We grouped up and just found some mobs to grind, since all the quest areas were completely swamped with competition. It was the first time in a very long time that I’ve actually talked with someone in the game and grouped up in the open world.
We had a lot of fun just grinding mobs, and more than a couple desperate moments where we barely scraped through. At level 4 I was still using the starting weapon, and spend ALL my money to buy a new mace, which was a huge upgrade. I was also reminded that I needed to skill up maces, which I’d honestly forgotten about. Of course, I was then unable to buy my class abilities charge and rend, but the weapon upgrade felt more important.
Managed to make it to level 6 before I had to log. I honestly love how much slower paced the game is than live. And the difficulty of the world tuned such that I really want to be in a group when I under-level the monsters I’m fighting (something that doesn’t even exist any more in live).
Anyway, I just wanted to spread a little joy. Really looking forward to the Classic release now. My nostalgia level is set to MAXIMUM!

That’s the authentic experience, right there. For some reason, Deathknell had its respawn rate set to “Caffeinated Spider Monkey,” so you got the retail experience of spawn sniping, rude emotes, and piles of corpses crunching underneath the feet of the same mob that just respawned on top of its own body before the death animation was done.

That was exactly our experience in Northshire. Circles of people standing around each spawn location trying to get the first tag on things. Honestly, that part kinda sucks, and isn’t fun. I actually wish that they “layered” a bit harder just in those starting areas. I think it is going to turn off a bunch of people that feel like they can’t even really play the game.
That problem will probable resolve itself in the first few hours though as people spread out a bit more into the next zones. I started right at 11, so it was probably at it’s worst when I was there.
I’d love to join in on the fun, but apparently the realms are either locked or incompatible - I mean, I want to play on the oceanic realm but apparently im incompatible!
GAH!
I had forgotten they were using Layering. I honestly didn’t notice anything different in that regard. Of course, I was playing Horde druid, the most unpopular class in Vanilla, but I still saw a lot of other players, and chat was constantly scrolling.

When I first got in it felt like they weren’t using layering. There were so many people, but the human starting location is probably the most popular. I left general chat almost immediately, because it was mostly just people complaining about a specific streamer.

Oh, there was plenty of Asmond love/hate in Gen Chat in Mulgore as well. LOL
stress test was so much fun, in the beginning on the gnome story there is a guy you got to kill and loot his book ( i forget) but there was about 50 gnomes and dwarfs in a circle to where this thing spawned and ppl started shouting “make a like” and it started with a line of 10 and grew to a line of 50 and im guessing that the line grew to the point that ppl were standing in the line and didnt know why they were there lmao
great times as always

I started in the Gnome area and really had no problem finishing all the quests except the cave book quest.
We went to IF got skinning and killed a million boars, then got to SW before the restart.
It was maximum fun.
I have almost always solo’d because of some bad grouping experiences in the past, but today has been a whole new experience. In Dun Morogh, we were forming queues that most people abided by to collect quest items. It was wonderful to see order and friendliness mean more than rushing through at the cost of others. My faith has been restored and I’m looking forward to finding a group for Classic even more.
