Streamers and the Beta

First off my intent with this topic is to simply cover the recent ‘‘drama’’ regarding many live streamers being accepted into the Classic Beta. If I offend you I apologize but I have given much thought on this recent subject and wanted to voice my opinion. It seems many popular live streamers have been given recent access to the Classic Beta. Why is that? Well to put it simply it draws more attention to the game as a whole and helps uncover what Classic WoW will really be like once released. I find it hard to see why people who have played the game for years haven’t been able to even access the beta in the slightest. I have always thought that with time should come certain rewards but in this scenario it simply is not the case. Many of today’s popular streamers are playing the beta simply for more money. That is what it boils down to. Many of them have never touched a foot into Azeroth but all of the sudden they have priority over thousands that are urging to even play the beta for one day. Many people I have spoken with about this issue feel the same way as I. I understand that from a business standpoint the streamers bring in serious views and acknowledgement of the game itself creating a bigger player base. But why must it be live streamers that have the main privilege over multiple year subs to the game? Many of the people I find that play this game do not care about the current state of the game but just enjoy funding an organization that makes games that everyone can enjoy. I find this to be somewhat lacking in today’s world of Blizzard. I think that some of the best beta testers are non streamers. They can focus more on finding bugs within the game and not so much reading donations from their chat. I have no hate towards streamers, they have to make a living too and bringing popularity to their favorite game is a dream come true for most. I guess the thing I do not agree with is the fact that big viewer based streamers have priority just because of viewership they have versus the people that have been subbed for multiple years to the game and spent thousands of dollars on this company while not receiving something as little as a stress test invitation.

I hope I don’t come off as rude, but have you ever heard of paragraphing?
I ain’t reading that without paragraphing. Sorry.

Didn’t you make a different thread than this one already?

I thought you were channeling them or something. It was your turn to watch the OP.

I finally was able to establish a connection long enough to pull what OP meant to put. It’s over on the other thread.

The truth is, streamers bring in revenue and its advertisement.

If you run a business, its a fact MOST of your playerbase cannot fit into the beta. So you’re going to have to provide the top streamers access so they can build hype. Literally any one of us if we ran a game company would do the same. Don’t lie.

Point 2- Beta isn’t the game itself… Just wait for the game. The beta is for the beta. Not for playing itself. I guess we’re all so hyped and desire this so much we really want in but we have to chill out.

Its honestly just a beta.

I mean… you just answered your own question.

In a world where nothing is free, profit is what hold us together.

Can anyone say how many people are in the beta, and then how many are streamers?

What’s an acceptable ratio?

I don’t disagree but at the same time it’s a bit surreal right now. All the big streamers and Youtube personalities play nothing but Classic WoW and talk about it as if it was live. Meanwhile, if you want to see streams for the retail game, you have to scroll the web page… Even during a normal expansion’s beta that never happened to my knowledge.

You might find it hard to see because it’s not true. I’ve played since 04 and I got in the beta

They don’t. The vast majority of the people in the beta are not streamers.

And there are tons of them in the beta. Myself included.

Seems like you do.

They don’t.

I got in the beta and the stress test. I’ve never steamed once.

Wasn’t the stress test open to almost everyone? I honestly don’t know, I got in, but I figured it was something sent to everyone.

As far as streamers getting beta priority, you answered your own question, so there’s nothing to add there.

As far as letting more people into the beta, remember when access to the MOP beta was a prize for pre-ordering the expansion? Remember what a complete and utter s**t show the MOP beta was? Maybe let’s not have some overblown beta.

That is a good point.

They should at least expand the beta. I mean they have to test full server capacities and such. They have enough people to do this already but still. The playerbase will be pleased.

In my own opinion, the only reason they made the stress test on the 29th again, technically today for me, is because of the positive feedback.

They gave some excuse as to why its going to be so soon again, but I don’t buy into it. I really think they did it because the first stress test was so positive. The forums were so flooded. If they were pleased with the attention and just wanted to do it again soon, you think they’d just say it like that?

I just know Blizz will most likely expand the beta here in the near future. Too many people are requesting it.

No, I know a lot of people who didn’t get into the stress test.

They will at some point. It is very early right now. Their sole purpose right now is to use the streamers to get people excited about what is coming.

They are trying to get people who have never played (inviting streamers who have never played gives them access to these people) and those who have been playing private servers or who have left the game years ago. The streamers showing the fun they are having in beta help do this.

I had never watched streamers before but wanted to see what Classic was all about (I’m a Cata baby).

I have really enjoyed the streams.

It was fun to watch both sides of the huge PVP fight in Arathi, seeing the Alliance not watch their flank and getting wiped because of it. Seeing the horde make the stupid mistake of jumping into Refuge Pointe.

It was fun watching a group die all the way to AQ and then ghost through the gate
I didn’t realize Caverns of Time and Hyjal existed back then and it was fun watching them visit those places.

It was fun watching them kite the dragon to Stormwind and then try to get it to the Undercity. I’m just sad that the horde tried to stop them.

The streamers are doing a good job not only engaging the people within the beta, but those who follow their steams.

The reason there are so many of these threads is because people are seeing the fun that others are having and wish they could join in. Instead they have to go complete yet another mindless WQ in retail.

I don’t blame them for being salty for blizzard is not thinking about their retail customers right now.

No not at all. It’s not like they’d relaunch their original game because retail players requested it for years …oh wait.

“Some customers” requested classic. Some customers could care less and would appreciate it if Blizzard provided a continuation of their retail game. As it stands, 8.2 probably will not come out for another month.

So you will continue to see salty posts about classic.
