So… does anybody know why humans till did not retake Stratholme by now? I mean. Right at the end of stratholme campaign in War 3 we see the citizens burning the zombified bodies as Uther and Jaina were talking. So, I was surprised to see that the city was full of zombies in WoW classic. Later on we kill Balazzar and Rivendare, and in every new expac we enter the city to kill the leader at the time of the current expac. Then, why is the city still full of zombies??
I cant remember the specifics but I believe Stratholme somehow ended up cursed, like the fires in the city never went out. Eventually the Scourge showed up and just took full control of the city.
This is like asking why the Alliance still have not gotten Gnomergon and Gilneas back. The answer? Blizzard has no use for it so it just stays under Scourge control in the same way Gnomergon is still beset by Troggs and Leper Gnomes and Gilneas is still living in a cata time bubble despite both supposedly having been retaken from all accounts.
Which is a shame, because they could do soo much with all three cities. All three have a huge story and RP potential
Well, the Cataclysm quests for Stratholme have the Argent Crusade reclaiming it. I don’t know if there has been any update to it since then.
I think Medivh said in that cutscene that the dead in the city wouldn’t remain still for long. I think the implication was that burning bodies was only a temporary solution.

I don’t remember all the details, but the Paladin Order hall mount quest has you returning to Stratholme and the city is still in disarray.
Massive potential. This is why the game needs a face-lift. Updated the zones the bring the game back to its center, Azeroth. It shouldn’t be too difficult with phasing.
It still means creating intact cities that did not exist before. It represents doing a lot of work for no gameplay reward as the gameplay is in fighting monsters, not RP.
Then make the new cities relevant to the game play.
Or ones that feel relevant once the expansion is over as well. Blizzard is getting both competent and creative when it comes to cities and hubs now, it’s a shame that so much of that is just forgotten next expansion.
I think between the Scourge still prevalent in the region, and the Horde having a heavy presence to the north and until recently the west, the Alliance doesn’t have much of an opening to retake Stratholme. They already tried to retake Andorhal, which could act as a link in a supply chain, but the Forsaken stopped that.
Ghostlands of all places is still infested with Scourge. Undead are like mold apparently, you just can’t get them out without burning the whole place down.
I agree. They’ve made good use of Boralas and Zandalar. They should be carried over after Shadowlands. They just have to continue to many then feel relevant and related to the story. We should have to visit these cities for quests or something. I’m sure they can find ways to continue the relevancy of capital cities.
