Stratholme Gauntlet run needs more time!

I’m generally not one to say things like this and I’m all for a challenge, but the timing on this is beyond ridiculous.

After all the prep work with Argent Dawn rep on this character to cut down the mats needed to nothing, I just couldn’t do it on my main, so I swapped to my goblin mage. Managed to do it on that character, but even with the Rocket Jump racial, speed enchants, and talent points in Flow of Time, I STILL barely made it with like five or six seconds to spare.

Doesn’t need to be piss easy to do, but even an extra 30 seconds to run all the way from the Crusader’s Cathedral upon starting the event, to undead Strat, clearing it all, opening up the way to Rivendare, killing him, then destroying the Hand of Naxxramas would go a long way towards alleviating the frustrations in doing this.

Even classes/races with various ways to boost their speed are arriving with barely ten seconds to wrap the event up.

I mean, I did it and only things I had was rocket jump and DA’s

Doesn’t really need more time

I had to get a couple of movement enchants and a zephyr potion to make it. The timer is very tight.

I had ghost wolf form on my shaman and still had less than 20 seconds left on it.

Agreed. It’s too short for how much time it will take to just learn the dungeon and its triggers well enough to know the correct route. Once I did, it only took me a couple tries with my warlock, but basically had to keep Burning Rush on the whole time (Healthstones and pots to replenish my health), and Gate a couple times. But even then, it was a nailbiter.

its not short if the dk can make it so can others get the gust potion lvl 3
and i had 30-50 secs left

its suppose to be the old style run we had to get the mount a 100% drop and save the person

i did it with “non goblin” mage, no rocket jump, no speed additions, no pots required.

seems extreme… the entire point of the timer, is to make people use their thinking organ if need be.

most people have probably done hundreds of runs just farming for the mount.

i’m not exactly sure what people need to learn?
if people do need to learn, they can watch a video or read a guide like with anything else.

I made it on my Warrior with about 30secs to spare.

  • Enchant Cloak: Homebound Speed
  • Enchant Bracers: Devotion of Speed
  • Enchant Boots: Minor Speed (has a level restriction, so used some low-level boots)
  • Fried Bonefish (Shadowlands food buff that increases speed after killing a mob)
  • Charged Phial of Alacrity
  • Any talents that increased Speed

Then just spammed Charge and Heroic Leap on CD.

dont use the speed potion right out the gate save it for the roach trap room

The problem is the spawn time on the add waves before Rivendare and the roach trap. They are both adding artificial time that shouldn’t really be there based on how quickly you kill them.

Burning Rush is literally the BEST baseline speed boost in the game. You should be flying.

you can pass the roach trap with the gust potion
and the paladins charger and heroic leap i think

Suppose Demonic Gate would work as well.

Completed it solo on my paladin, using Cavalier, Seasoned Warhorse, Unbound Freedom, and nitro boost tinker…had plenty of time, finishing with 30 seconds to spare.

Of note, you can complete this in a group. I helped a hunter friend do it. On undead side, she went left; I went right. We met at Baron’s gate. She waited near the small gate, while I killed Baron. Time wasn’t an issue.

Also, think about what your class can do to save time, when every second counts. For instance, I saved Avenger’s Shield for the ziggurats. I’d dip in to get LoS on one of the non-elites, launch a shield, and already be running out by the time the shield killed them all.

I didn’t do it on my DK, but I’d imagine with speed enchants (even if temporary just for this endeavor), speed pots/nitro boost, Wraith Walk, and double Death’s Advance you should be okay. Use one charge of Death’s Advance first, so it’s recharging. Then, pot/nitro, because it has the longest CD. Wraith Walk, Death’s Advance…then anything as it comes off CD. Don’t stop to loot. Don’t stop to engage anything chasing you. Maybe DnD at the entrance to the ziggurat, taunt a mob inside, and let the DnD do its job as you run away. DnD on the small gate, just as the small skels start to run at you after Rammstein.

Yep. The roach gate can be cheesed with anything that allows you to move through fast enough. Hunters could probably even disengage, if they’re skilled at the jump, spin, disengage.

Ultimately, though, I don’t think going through the roach gate is the fastest. Upon reaching the undead side, vear left, get the ziggurat, and backtrack to get the other two, ending close to Baron’s gate.

Passing through the roach gate isn’t the shortest route, anyway. You don’t need to pass through any roach gates. Vear left after reaching undead side, get the ziggurat, doubleback to the two ziggurats on the right side. You’ll end close to the Baron’s gate and will have traveled less distance. Bonus, you don’t need to worry about the roach gate.

I had ten seconds to spare on my bloodelf mage. I had no outside of class speed increases. I also messed up a little. It’s hard if you don’t prepare but if you use speed items you should have more than enough time.

Get a buddy, have them be at the gate (but not inside) the other half of strat, start the event and have them deal with 2 of the Ziggurats and you to deal with the Nerubian and meet up in the slaughterhouse.

I don’t think it’s that tight. I got to the NPC with almost 90 seconds (a full minute and a half) left on the timer. I had speed enchants, charged phial of alacrity, all speed talents available, and nitro boosts. Nitros are probably the biggest difference-maker here since you can get 3 full uses out of them at a 2-minute cooldown, but I didn’t even get to use them the third time.

It helps to familiarize yourself with the path you’re going to take, and clear out the mobs that are in the way on the live side (basically all before Elders’ Square where Barthilas is first waiting in front of Alonsus Chapel).

EDIT: Didn’t pass through the roach gate on undead side either. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve ever gone through that thing, as we never did it in vanilla. It simply serves no purpose except to waste time in all scenarios.

That is what I did on my Warrior.
