So I am as of yesterday getting this strange beeping sound when I startup the game… It only happens with the LIVE client, not the PTR. It even happens when I bypass the launcher and open the game directly. I have a video that I recorded on my phone so you can hear the sound… Anyone out there know what this sound is and what’s causing it? I am autistic and while my sound related issues are not as bad as some autistics, there are occasional things that really just make me cringe horribly, and this appears to be one of them.

It seems to be some sort of Windows system sound. Doesn’t seem to be an error sound more of a notification. You can confirm that - right click on your volume icon near the clock. Select “Open volume mixer”. Click the speaker icon under System Sounds to mute them. Then test.

I wonder if you’re running any overlay programs that are making that sound as they link up with the game screen? Discord does something like that, I think, but not that exact sound if I recall.
Any streaming apps?
Windows 10 also has gaming services built in, like streaming or messaging. I don’t know if you’re running Win10, and if you’ve allowed those to run, but maybe that could be it. (Connected to the idea of “Windows sounds”.)
Pretty sure if I recall that, that sound is from having radeon chill enabled.
The “beeping” is there to make sure that Chill activates, and to know Chill’s state when toggling with F11. Without the beeps it would be quite difficult to say right away if Chill is on or off (without Fraps) - but I guess that was the whole point, to make the gameplay experience unaffected…

Yea I read the possibility of it being Chill, but as far as I know I’ve got Chill disabled (if I even have it as an option, cant’ seem to find it unless that’s another name for ReLive?). As for it being a system sound, it’s not that as I have tried muting system sounds and it still does it.
Ah, okay I think you are right that it’s Chill, as I can make it repeat the sound again and again by hitting F11!!! So now I just need to figure out if I actually need Chill or not and how to disable it if I feel I don’t…
hello sorry for the bump, but having this with nvidia atm and only thread i found! i suspect its from my laptop choosing the nvidia gpu over the intergrated one?? but this only happens in WOW! NO OTHER games/steam/video edit programs? how to disable it…it also freezes the system for like .5 ms enough to feel a ‘‘lag’’
This is a 4-year-old thread that was resolved by the user figuring out it was another program causing it. If you have an issue it’s best not to necro old threads but start a new one and detail your issue so others can assist you with the problem.
