Story Livestream was incredibly disappointing

There’s no point in arguing semantics, dude. Two of their story developers sat down and discussed story and lore. You can be disappointed if you want, but it is what it is.

No, they didn’t. They didn’t discuss anything in the Lore. They talked about how they make cutscenes and plan out the storyboard.

They’re so proud of those cutscenes. They even make Horde players watch Jaina’s disney musical clip.

Discussed Lore that they’ve already discussed in previous videos and lore that we’re already well aware of.

Yeah, Nillah, guess you’re right when you’re right.

It was pretty bad, especially at certain points towards the end.

I thought there would be another actual Q&A, but I’m afraid you’re correct.

Yeah pretty odd thing to say at that point…

I give them credit for trying something new. I didn’t mind it, but it wasn’t that informational. I did at points just feel like a fly on the wall which was interesting.

I do think they are passionate about what they’re doing which is a good thing to see.

“Did u expect tehm 2 give away storey?”

No children, go read the questions being asked in the thread where they invited them to be asked. There’s a lot of pertinent questions it’s obvious they have no intention of answering and likely will not be answered in the story.

Seriously, it’s not going to spoil BFA to know whether vordrassil has roots in Drustvar.

It was an advertisement marketed to lore nerds as genuine conversation.

More than anything, I think the stream was effective in demonstrating that a segment of Blizzard developers are engaged with the community and fandom itself in ways that the Game Director does not himself demonstrate. They sounded so much like fans that you could probably go into any lore-intensive BfA thread here on the forums and find that some completely average non-dev subscriber holds nigh-identical thoughts about the topics they discussed.

This stream seemed to more successfully please a bigger portion of the playerbase it was targeted at than the usual Q&As do.

Might I ask which “bigger portion” Of the playerbase? The pvers?

The news page has been updated now, but originally it said "Delve into the ongoing story and lore in World of Warcraft: Battle For Azeroth with cinematic project director Terran Gregory and senior game designer Steven Danuser in our developer livestream.

Yeah, I figured it was about like that. It’s disappointing that they invited people to suggest topics and then ignored them all, but at least it wasn’t directly advertised as a Q&A. That would be some more negative PR they don’t need.

They didn’t answer any questions.

I feel like I just rewatched a Blizzcon panel and didn’t actually hear anything significant nor any questions answered.

The first 13 minutes was good, kind of went down hill after that.

Never said it was a problem, just that a book doesn’t charge 15 dollars a month with a 40 dollar buy in.

If I had to pay 15 dollars a chapter excluding the buy in, you better believe I’m going to be upset if it’s a terrible story.

EDIT:

And don’t go judging people by financial situation. Some people have to spend their time taking care of ailing family.

Others might be suffering from illness or disability themselves.

Being a full time student isn’t cheap either. But I guess caretakers, the sick, and students should just reasses their life’s priorities, huh?

I am upset. I mean, it’s kind of a relief that they flat-out admitted they’re retreading the MoP Horde Civil War, because we all could see where that was going. But I’m upset that they would once again put Horde players through a civil war storyline most of us hated the first time, just to gratify themselves. And it’s clear they have no interest in making sure we feel any pride in our faction or what we’re doing in this expansion.

I play this game for fun and relaxation, not to be an edgelord villain. Back when I picked the red team, it was sold to me as a group with a dark past who were forging ahead to make a better future. None of that is anywhere in sight in BfA, and the writers don’t even care.

“The Story sometimes necessitates bad things happen to characters.”

WHEN ARE YOU PERMANENTLY KILLING SYLVANAS OFF THEN, YOU COWARDS
WE HAVE STARTED A WHOLE CIVIL WAR WITHIN THE HORDE FOR LESS THAN WHAT SHE HAD COMMITTED

I think the conversational format made it confusing. I also think it was difficult to tell whether they were answering any questions. I wish they answered a lot of the questions that were asked instead talking about the behind the scenes.

Like here’s one question that was posted that they did answer:

“How do Night Elf characters obtain the Night Warrior customization in lore? Tyrande’s Ascension was awesome, but it didn’t really answer the question of how other Night Elves are able to harness that power and obtain the dark eyes for themselves.”

The answer to this was that if you were fighting for elune in darkshore you were harnessing this power.

All I got from that thing is. one they running out of ideas. two looks like this might be last expansion. Three they have no clue on how to write a good story. that is my take and I want that hour of my life wasted back.

At this point I don’t care whatsoever about the faction story. It’s trash in every way.

At the very least the Zandalar story was pretty good and I’m interested to see where they’re going with Bwonsamdi and Talanji/Rastakhan.

But in terms of the faction story, why would I care about a cross of a worse version of the MoP storyline with Forsaken fan fiction?
