The only movie I’ve been to the theaters to watch this year was Return of the Jedi. Took my cousins to see it after we watched the other episodes 4 and 5. We now have three new Original Trilogy fans.
That’s awesome! Bet that was worth it though!
Definitely. I still plan to kidnap everyone I know who has never seen A New Hope and find a way to show it them in theaters.
I was a huge fan of the original trilogy growing up. I had an Empire Strikes Back poster on my wall, watched it every weekend as a kid. I had all the Expanded Universe books before they became Legends. I fell off the SW fandom for a while though, but I really like the new stuff on Disney+
I love all the star wars trilogies. Even the newer ones. And yes, I did cry when I thought Rey died in the last one, don’t care, at least I can admit it
All the new SW content Disney has been coming out with has been fantastic. It’s a shame that after this year, they plan on dialing it back a bit. Though, I am soo excited for The Acolyte next year and I heard my boy Keanu Reeves filmed a cameo for the show, which is just awesome.
Plus we’re getting another trilogy in the future, so that’s something to be excited about
I am in worry mode right now since they said they were cutting some SW stuff coming down the pipe. I am worried about The Acolyte, as well as other rumored stuff like Ghost Track 17, which I think might be a spinoff about my current favorite character, but that’s likely scrapped now.
We’re getting another Trilogy? I thought it was just one movie and a Rey spinoff?
I have a feeling Barbie is going to redeem Ryan Gosling for me after Bladerunner 2049. Barbie is like the antithesis to Bladerunner 2049.
I have to admit, I was a huge Star Wars fan, but the glut of product made it easier to tune it all out.
I had tons of the old expanded universe books. I saw the prequels opening night. But I started losing interest and it feels like I am so far behind, just forget it.
I was interested in the Obi Wan show, but not enough to start. The Mandalorian sounded up my alley but I never could get into it when I tried to watch it. Ashoka looks interesting, Rosario Dawson is ok enough. I might try to watch that idk.
Then there’s all the other Star Wars shows and spin offs I haven’t mentioned and don’t even know about. I guess there is a balance between offering content to all the niches out there, without over saturating the market with product.
Speaking of Star Wars, I still have a bunch of games I’ve yet to play, including finishing up the expansion stuff for SWTOR. Oof, but I wanna finish up Cyberpunk and then move on to Baldur’s Gate 3 as well. Why is there so many things to do but always so little time…
I did that two movies in a row thing years ago with a friend. It was so fun. It’s tough now that we’re all older and many of them got a family and we all get knee pain if we sit too long so…
It might be, I could be wrong about it being a trilogy. But even if it’s just one movie, that’s cool too. I love Rey
Is it wierd that I walked out of the Barbie movie with the biggest sense of hope that everything’s gonna be okay?
That was the best depiction of intersectional feminism, we as a society needed in this moment. “once I realized patriarchy isn’t just about horses I kinda lost interest.” was my favorite line. Yes, it’s time for men to figure out who they are outside of the patriarchy, Barbie already helped women liberate themselves from societies gender expectations, now it’s Ken’s turn to define what being a man is. I have a feeling though this movie will ‘out’ bad allies because they will be offended because this movie actively calls out bad male allies.
Ryan Gosling did redeem himself for sure.
Anyways, that’s my honest Barbie review no one asked for.
Without seeing the movie, I would say :
No, it is not weird that you would feel a sense of affirmation.
The movie has been regarded well for its story and art and music. It seems a well received work.
I guess there are Right Wing people mad about inclusivity, as they tend to be. I think Hollywood is used to that.
I probably will not watch the Barbie movie until it becomes a chore - like, until I am drafted into it as a baby sitter or some broad drags me to it.
It was so good. I sent this same thing to a friend but, I feel like some people once the hype around it fades will feel like this maybe wasn’t a movie about feminism as much as it was a movie about men and mens liberation in the face of the men’s rights movement.
I feel like people will question if it actually was a good feminist movie. “How can this be a feminist movie if it’s about men?” Because that’s the 2nd wave feminist critique of intersectional feminism. But feminism did it’s job, it allowed women to liberate themselves from the patriarchy and define ‘womanhood’ through self love and acceptance. The only ones still stuck in the patriarchy is men, that’s why the Ken’s turn on eachtother and fight themselves. It’s time for men’s liberation, and for men to redefine masculinity outside of the patriarchy, and feminists will be by their side supporting them.
This isn’t a movie about women hating men like alt-right crtitique says, it’s about supporting men through thier messy redefinition of what it means to be men.
The irony is, the theater I was seeing Barbie at was also hosting a vintage car show this weekend so there was a bunch of people wearing pink, and muscle cars and it felt surreal.
It’s not just for the girls and the gays and the theys, it’s for men too.
Even though the initial marketing of “She’s Barbie, he’s just Ken.” seemed to devalue men, but the moral of the story is men don’t have to define their masculinity being satellie to women’s interest. They can just be themselves. it’s not “Barbie and Ken.” it’s “just Ken.” He’s not an accessory to Barbie.
I am glad people find some sort of feeling about these things, even if I don’t.
I root for the Hollywood Machine. Californication and all that.
You might like it it’s very tongue in cheek about the pitfalls of consumerism while being a product for consumption.
Speaking of Ahsoka when will it finally air?
August 23rd actually. It looks soooo good
I’m so hyped I’ve been watching The Clone Wars and Rebels to get caught up. No one told me TCW was so good!
Nice I can’t wait!
