So I’ve had a surprise weekend off thanks to my phone going kaput and my car still being in the shop.
And I’ve resorted to sending random phone numbers still images of Scud the dog from Toy Story to amuse myself every other hour at the 39 minute mark while waiting for LFR to pop so I can get that damn vampire pilgrim hat.
I’m not clear on how the cross faction thing works… But yell if you’re still waiting, and I’ll tank it for you. Might speed up the queue.
…Actually, my unholy/blood death knight has a viable tanking weapon so we wouldn’t even have to meddle with that.

I’ll message you next time. I’ve this great ensemble look mixing the LFR Nathria gear with the Heroic Antorus one. It matches with my beloved Defiler tabard perfectly.
I’m going for sort of a stiff English officer corp stiff upper lip vibe that occasionally devolves into cockney cursing with my Rogue. Idea is she was a Gilnean peasant who’s risen to High Executor.
Thats one aspect of the Forsaken I wish was explored more. Previous titles and wealth are irrelevant to them so it’s basically a 2nd chance meritocracy. And unsurprisingly the aristocrats wind up sweeping up bat poop and offering strangers IOUs if they can get them their deeds back.

I have been busy the passed week, with work and family obligations and the holiday. Not much going on in the Story Forum, so it isnt moving at a quick pace. I could keep up with the threads and make sense out of them.
But GD has been looking crazier than normal, just by pursuing the thread titles. As I said, I have been real busy, so I havent actually sat down to read the GD threads until this morning. I feel like I am missing out, lol. I am not sure exactly whats going on.
From what I gather, people are in a tizzy because :
Blizzard will make it so you can customize the gender pronouns the game refers to your characters as. (That sounds good to me, and like it will not effect the gameplay of others. But I am not surprised the typical lot is outraged)
Blizzard is removing the words male/female in customization, and is instead using Body 1 and Body 2. (That one does seem a bit overboard and needless, almost like a joke. But ultimately harmless, so nothing to get riled about, imo)
Is there some other inclusivity issue being brought up by Blizz, or did that sum it up? I see an outrage about “inclusivity”, but I have only seen those 2 minor issues brought up. Wondering if there is more to it.

It’s ignorant people being ignorant because gay/trans/nonbinary people exist IRL and now they can exist in game. It’s 2022, not the 1420s.
There shouldn’t be anything to be to be outraged about unless someone is part of the problem

I’ll never get what all the fuss is about. LGBT people make up a disproportionate amount of the fantasy fanbase. Seriously I’ve frequently been the only cishet person in a D&D group and I don’t think I’ve met a queer person not into at least a few geeky properties.
Doing something to make a large sector of your customer base happy isn’t virtual signaling or wokeism or whatever tf the perpetually aggrieved are calling it now. It’s just good business.

Body 1/Body 2 for main races appear to be just the specific body types they were granted
Given Hearthstone has been showing Thicc Elves and Twink Orcs, I’m taking it as a sign they plan on eventually adding different body types (intersection of sex and bodily shape vis-a-vis muscle mass/fatness/etc) later.
In combination with the dev interviews regarding “every race will be able to play every class eventually”, I yearn for the day I can play a thicc zandalari warlock
There’s also a big melodrama regarding the “Humanization” of the monster races due to model updates, usually invoking pearly clutching against Furries and also thinly veiled resistance to recent dev interviews regarding “we handled monster races poorly and plan on being less dumb” which essentially amounts to players arguing “but I like my racist genocide simulator game :(”

I like the direction the game is going because now I can RP a more feminine looking male tauren and not feel bad about it. (Was going to anyway, but that’s besides the point). Racists gonna do racist stuff, can’t fix stupid after all.

What throws me is that way back in 2008 Saints Row 2 had gender as a sliding scale. You could play an intersex crime lord if you wanted.
And that game was universally praised for it’s staggering level of character creation options. 14 years later and now thats the height of controversy.
It’s almost like these culture war flashpoints are manufactured controversy or something.

Yeah the way intersex people and their material existence and the way societies have confronted such differently all over the world and have synergy with Trans/equivalent discourses globally has been entirely ignored by The Discourse is both predictable and depressing.
People are just talking past each other because they have fundamentally different metaphysics/epistemologies of gender/sex (think “Two Spirit” vs “Hijra” vs Trans/Queer vs etc) or, worse yet, and most common, most people don’t actually think about what they actually believe in regarding how the world works in general so can’t even have these conversations to begin with in a meaningful capacity, so it all becomes reduced to “vibes” and “posture”.
But I digress

I want thin Humans. I hope they some how rework all the races with some sliders. Height, weight, chest size, what have you.
Star Wars Galaxies was awesome in so many ways. My brother wanted to play as a tiny wookie. And he could! There was a height slider, even for wookies!
A gender/sexuality slider in character customization is a concept that is new and different to me.
Yeah it feels like everyone has a different understanding and no one can even broach discussion.
It is a difficult conversation. More so as I have Trans people come out in my family. I try to be polite and understanding, but it has been a bumpy road.
For example : the whole “dead naming” thing. If your name was “Emily” for 18 years and you want to be “Stan” from now on … it doesn’t mean your family hates you if they remember calling you “Emily” for your whole life, and call you that on accident sometimes. But now it is tantamount to a hate crime.
Sure, new friends and new people will go with the new name and new gender, because they just met you. It is easy for them. They didnt know “Emily,” they just know Stan.
I had a similar conversation with a Trans family member. Which is why I mentioned it.
I was there on the day this family member was born. Saw them in the hospital. Discussed names with the mother. Practically helped raise the kid. When I think of holding them as a baby, or buying them toys, or … everything… it was always “Emily”.
Since they came out as Trans, I am pretty good about calling him “Stan” and calling him “him.” I try to respect it. But I have to make an effort to think twice when I talk to him. I am like “oh my precious baby emily…no, wait… dudebro Stan” in my head before I address them. And I understand some people with less tact might just say “Emily my lovely baby girl” without thinking, because they said it from their birth.

Personally the only corrosive effect gender inclusive bathrooms seem to be causing is in Chicago is at gay clubs.
These USE to be for god fearing gentlemen looking to take a sudden interest in sniffing the tile with rolled up bills while a 40 something man explored his sexuality enthusiastically in the next stall over.
It is not here for Samantha to cry about her doomed relationship with Bradford Wadsington or whatever tf.

I’ve made this joke before, but some of the people are going to lose circulation in their fingers if they don’t loosen their grip on those pearls.
What’s getting me here is that it’s just such a NOTHING. Maybe it’s because I play too many RPGs, but this feels pretty standard… and it’s not like the gender options are going away. Someone in general used the term “poutrage” in reference to this and I’m absolutely appropriating it.

I first read that as “poo-trage” as in “triage” or “fromage” and I may keep it that way. “Poutrage” is great, I’ll agree.
