I mean, you say forced. In school it’s a bit different - I was similarly ‘forced’ to do German 5-8 and I’ve kept the interest (did a unit of it at university), so one’s MMV. I felt the same way about maths, and I thank god that I dropped it as soon as I was able.
With jobs it’s rather different, of course. Now, if it’s about a job requiring languages, that’s a whole other kettle of fish. I couldn’t imagine someone learning a language they didn’t want to learn for a specific job!
Yeah they said the same stuff to me about Mandarin. And it’s still perplexing. As even if China obtained super duper power status and an unprecedented global hegemony - everyone already speaks English. It’d make no sense to try to force Mandarin on people.
Between the British conquering the world and American cultural omnipresence in the most interconnected peroid of human history it’s just sort of become the de facto planetary common. Spanish comes in 2nd right behind that for similar reasons.
Like even if every country ditched English to exclusively speak their mother tongue, English and Spanish would still be the most widely spoken. As you could walk from Buenos Aires to Anchorage and rarely be unable to communicate with people if you speak just those two languages.

Maybe in North America, but if everyone only spoke their mother tongue it’d probably be the various Chinese and Indian dialects, not English and Spanish.
I see your point but that’d be like Latin returning to Europe. I guess it could happen but I’m not sure what would cause that.
I tell ya whats going to make or break DF for me is if they streamline the gearing process.
I saved up max honor on my Rogue before hitting max level and geared myself top to bottom. But - as honor is requird to upgrade everything I’m very confused if I should hoard it again to eventually upgrade Conquest gear or upgrade my honor gear so I can play competitively to get CP faster.
But of course the PvP gear only shoots up to IvL 239 in WM and BGs. So I cant yet do higher Torghast which I need for the extra special Soul Ash which I need for higher IVL artifacts.
And Jesus Christ I feel like I should crack open an Excell sheet to measure all this and it’s at that moment I realize how little fun I’m having.
I love studying other languages, and reading about language itself. French was compulsory in grade school for me in southern Louisiana, U.S., and French is sort of embedded in our culture here so I have a strong basis in it. I studied Spanish a bit in later grade school, Swahili in college, and majored in German, though that was long ago and my German has suffered from atrophy.
Honestly, I think learning (or at least earnestly studying) another language is useful regardless of what language it is. Learning the structures of a different language will not only go on to help immensely if you ever have to study another language even if it’s completely unrelated, but it also really helps give you a better grasp of your own language. The more you see how other languages work, you start to really understand how your own does.

Just figured I mention that I’m rather proud of myself in WoW. Finished the zone quests in all three major Zandalari zones, working on the War Campaign, and got the Mag’har and Vulpera unlocked.
It’s far more than I did alliance side, which makes me wonder

I’ve really thoroughly enjoyed Kul Tiras.
But it is high seas pirate adventure, eldritch cults speaking in tongues and haunted, baleful witchwoods. And I’m a pretty easy lay for all that.
Definitely rolling a Kul Tiran Druid as a good ole fashion Grimm hag of the wood and already have a Forsaken I’m writing as a fresh dead Kul Tiran marine.

I really disliked Kul’tiras. I can’t really put my finger on it, but the place just does nothing for me. Zandalar on the other hand? Absolutely beautiful all around. Even Nazmir with it’s blood trolls and undead T-Rexs were cool.
I only ever played the alliance for the worgen really. I’ll probably make a worgen again in the future.

I’m actually compelled to make villain characters on the Alliance. They really feel like they need them.
Gotta unlock Velves. Definitely making an Old Ones evangelist so I can finally get use out of that Servant of N’Zoth title and all the other Void stuff I got in Horrific Visions that doesnt really fit with anyone else.
Just standing outside people’s houses singing cheerful carols;

Sounds like fun. I’m thinking of going back and doing enough Suramar quests to unlock the Nightborne. But my Grimtotem Tauren is just too much fun at the moment.

I loved Kul Tiras and Zandalar both, but Drustvar as a whole really did it for me. I know BfA gets a lot of flak, but the zones, the quests, the Allied Races, the Zandalari and Kul Tiran druids, all made me love the expansion.

Claw mogged Worgen fury warrior has been too much fun. Using 2 1h weapons gives a boost to your attack and movement speed so you really do feel like the damn Tasmanian Devil as you whirl around tearing people to ribbons.
Intention is to RP the character as a Lordaeronian noble who was hit by the Worgen curse by a witch before the events of Cata. Interesting mirror to my undead Rogue who was one of the Gilneans caught on the wrong side of Greymane’s Wall when the Scourge pulled up.

Yeah Drustvar was my favorite zone and Waycrest is my favorite new dungeon.
I only wish Lady Waycrest could have different dialogue depending on the Horde racial makeup. Calling the Elves backwards savages who live with dirt floors is just confusing racism. And I always thought it was a shame there was no reaction to the Forsaken. Who I pictured as casually ambling through the manor like prospective home buyers, commenting on what they like and critiquing what they don’t.
“Yes, yes the door opening to the wrong room is a nice trick but you have to use it sparingly to keep your prey confused. If it’s all illogical architecture then that just becomes the new logic”
“Oh wow a subterranean cursed organ room? You know usually these are pretty garish but honestly this is tastefully done”.

I learned French so that I could watch hockey games. Most of the games I was able to watch on my old analog TV were Quebecistani channels that showed games by the Montreal Canadians and the Quebec Nordiques since Detroit home games were often not shown via blackouts.

Playing through Shadowlands with a Forsaken character and at first it would always ruffle my feathers whenever someone would refer to my character as a living mortal. Then I realized that compared to these guys, I pretty much am the warmest body in the room.

I always get bored when I try to level a Horde character (personal preference nothing against the zones), so I didn’t play through Zandalar very much. Kul Tiras was a lot of fun to play through and Drustvar was great. Though there was that one cave which reawakened my arachnophobia.

Just realized the new Resident Evil series on Netflix released, time to bingewatch. Hopefully I don’t overdose on cringe.
Lol ah yes, “living” is a stretch
The Forsaken existence conundrum. Are we living or are we dead? We are not quite living, yet not quite dead.

Guys! HALP! I started the Sylvanas loyalist quest line, got up to the point where Zellig dies and now it just stopped with no quests to pick up. Did I miss something?
