How does anybody acquire this in higher quantities? I’m likely doing something wrong but there’s just no way.
I spent roughly 3 hours, maybe more, gathering reagents just to craft the cheapest green profession gear to send to my mage to disenchant and I ultimately yielded only 35 Storm Dust.
It was an annoyingly exhaustive effort. I’ve been doing dungeons all day while gathering on my main and only acquired 2 pieces of green gear for disenchant. Please, what is the primary way to get Green Items for disenchanting?
This is painful, exhausting and ridiculous. So I’m either doing something very wrong, or this is just horrible game design. What ever happened to being able to tailor green pieces for disenchanting?
Tailoring and Enchanting always went so well together because of this but even the tailoring profession gears sends a big slap to you about self-supplying your own Storm Dust by making the only green pieces you can make REQUIRE Storm Dust, more than what you can chance to receive back from disenchanting the products.
Blizzard what are you trying to do?

You can buy a bag of 60-70 dust and some shards after turning in 50 wax in Gundargaz in the Ringing Deeps. I think that’s where most of the dust is going to be coming from currently.
I think this is the first time in 8 years we haven’t been able to shatter shards to make dust, blindsided me quite a bit.

Oh good gods, I knew I was missing something. I’m going to take a look at it in-game right now.
Edit: Oh thank goodness. I had enough to acquire the Firelight crystal for the bag of dust, it gave me 69 Storm Dust. However, disenchanting is the only way I know to acquire knowledge points for Enchanters. Well aside from Patron orders, but I have absolutely 0 right now on my mage.
I don’t understand what Blizzard’s design for this is, or what they’re intending to do if this is the only way to acquire high quantities of Storm Dust without selling your soul to laboring hours away or spend all your gold.
It’s one of the few things that’s making me question why I bother with this game.

Its the same for JC. Crushed Gemstones is just like Storm Dust yet you need 10 ore and 3 of the same gem to get 3-4 crushed gemstones. And to get the gems, you need to prospect the ore which you can maybe get 12 out of 200 ore to prospect.

if you have extra 70s laying around that you haven’t got professions on or they haven’t picked up the free bag of goodies from the crafting order station - send them to the city to do so. My blacksmith was able to level up to 50 with just the free ore they gave. But you can also get dust or cloth
what is this free bag of goodies? I don’t see anything at crafting order station?
there is a quest in the building where you place work orders - you get to choose mats and each bag has 350 artisan acuity in it.

Oh you rock! Thanks for this I missed this somehow.
Just as a follow-up, bags seem to be nerfed today to 10-13 dust instead of 60-70.

I think I’ll let my subscription run out.
Just as a FYI:
So I have an alt that went full out alchemist xmute build. You gain access to Alchemy: Thaumaturgy.
With any 20x overstocked materials that you have, you can blow them up and get other (random) mats, and I get quite a bit storm dust this way.

I have quite a few 70s and many of them have enchanting as a back-up since I already have one of each crafter. If you have enchanting, you can select the enchanting bag from the crafting quest everyone can do and it will have 40 dust. If you don’t have enchanting, you can select the tailoring bag which will have 10 dust. If your alt doesn’t have a profession at all, you can actually learn baseline 10c enchanting and still select the enchanting bag. I was able to do this and get 200+ dust which will help me get my main enchanter going.
Edit: That being said, the dust shortage is something that needs to be addressed. Blizz, please put a shard to dust recipe on one of the rep vendors at 5 or so renown. I feel like 5 is fair enough because it will require you to at least do the questline in the zone it’s within.

We get a whole tree revolving around shatter yet no shard shatter. /facepalm

I’m not sure if they nerfed this or if I got extremely unlucky, but the bag of dust I opened only had 13 tier 1 dust inside.
They nerfed it, some shenanigans happened and to address it they swung that bat hard.
Yeah, they nerfed the hell out of those last Thursday/Friday. I used to get like 64-69 from them but I opened one on the 30th and got only 8 Storm Dust.
No patch notes on it, nothing, they just stealth nerfed without a word and had people wasting their time grinding wax thinking they were going to get the same amount per bag. I had accumulated about 250 wax from a couple hours grinding and then I got the 1 bag of 8 and didn’t bother with the rest. So much for caring about their players’ time.
I haven’t bought a second one at all and see no point in collecting globs of wax anymore, they’re just accumulating from my search for greens now from disturbed dirt. They can collect dust in my inventory for all I care. The initial quantity was high, but I would have expected a nerf of like 21-28, not 8-13.
If something’s just too good to be true early on in the game, exploit early, exploit often. Because they’re gonna nerf it…
It has to be particular mats to get stormdust. Some mats give no stormdust.
The linkages in thaumaturgy are…
Ominous reagent - mycobloom - bismuth ore - storm dust - weaver cloth
Volatile reagent - stormcharged leather - arthor’s spear - ironclaw ore - blessing blossom
Mercurial reagent - gloom chitin - orbinid - aqirite - luredrop.
If you put in 20 of any in those linkages you get small amounts of the other 3 (and there is no restriction to how many times you do it) and just to be confusing you also get mercurial reagent (if you crunch ominous you get whats linked, but if you crunch the others you get a different reagent)
I crunched 400 mycobloom and got 31 storm dust, 33 bismuth ore, 41 weavercloth and 28 mercurial reagent. I crunched the mercurial reagent and got 10 orbinid.
It’s probably better to just sell the herbs/ore and just buy the dust, but you can turn mycobloom and bismuth into dust.
An alchemist can turn mycobloom into dust with thaumaturgy.
A blacksmith can turn bismuth into dust by making prof gear and de-ing that. There is one that takes 10 bismuth and you can de that for 2-3 dust.
I’m not specced into thaumaturgy or disenchant spec, so it’s not profitable over selling the mats for me right now. A shard shatter would really help.
