Store transmog and why It's a problem

The store has been around for YEARS. They’ve been adding an item to the store once every few months for YEARS. This isn’t the start of anything because items in the store are nothing new, it just so happens that this time it’s a transmog set instead of a mount. Since the set matches an existing mount my own speculation is that they were short on store mount ideas and decided to start adding matching sets for the existing store mounts.

I also strongly disagree that this is a problem in any way because plenty of people actually like having the option to purchase store items for various reasons, such as christmas or holiday gifts for friends or guildies for example.

Yes, 8 mounts over a 4 expansion span, that’s over six years…

Now It’s 7 mounts in less than a year… It’s getting out of hand.

More like they just needed more money because BFA was so terrible.

That’s fine, but many of us think it is a problem.

Id like to invite everyone to read my novel: “store transmog forum posts and why they’re a problem”.

Feel free to ignore them if you don’t like them. That’s the mature adult thing to do.

That’s a spectacular point! I’ve bought these as gifts before. We also do contests for them. And what would happen to the charity pets if there was no store? I hadn’t thought of that till just now either.

Good ol’ Activision.

RuneScape 3 did this same approach. I wonder if that turned out well…

spoiler alert, it didn’t and that’s why they have old school runescape

Not an Activision thing. Is an MMORPG thing.

And to preempt your next comment where I am absolutely certain you are going to say “but WoW has a sub!” So does FFXIV and their shop has much much MUCH more than Blizzard. I am relatively certain Activision had nothing to do with that.

Most everyone seems to be ok with Blizzcon perks and CE perks but you have to pay cash for those too!

And the lesson I got from this (and other similar posts) is that, some people just can’t seem to understand how Capitalism works. As an American, this shames me. :frowning:

I agree with all of this…except the being pilloried part. At least on my server, no body cares if you’re riding around town in/on/with store bought items.

Also OP needs to come to terms with the fact that there are people who play this game who think gold grinding is fun. My husband pays $15 + Xpac cost for the sole purpose of leveling (he does enjoy the quests) to max, farming mats and making gold via the Auction House game. That’s it!

I wonder if OP makes a new forum post complaining about every single new mount or pet added to the store? Or every reward item tied to the Recruit a Friend system?

Imagine trying to pretend FF is as good as WoW. :joy:

They have a bigger store because less people play and they have to make more money.

Imagine every time a company screwed its users over people said “It’s just how things work so It’s okay…”

But that is how Capitalism works. And nobody is getting screwed. A company opens a shop with exclusive items, people who can afford said items will buy. If you feel you are entitled to that, well I don’t know what to say. These shop items are just luxury items, you don’t need them to survive. Because Blizz is capitalizing on demand, does not make them the bad guys. They are just doing what a business is meant to do, and that is to make money. Again, your right as a consumer, is to not patronize these companies, if you feel that they are screwing you.

Imagine pretending every time a company took things out of the game you already pay for and put them in the cash shop you thought that It’s fine and just part of how the world works.

They could also make tons of money on selling flying at the start of every expansion for $100, I’ve literally seen people in the forums say they’d buy it. You can’t say my opinion of the company is wrong.

I know, I just refunded shadowlands and got a refund on my 6 month subscription, too.

I’m also able to vocalize my opinion, too, which is what this thread is about.

Well , if I thought I was being “screwed” by said company, I would then do the sensible thing and go take my money somewhere else. Simple as that. Capitalism, working as intended.

Still think it’s hilarious how you honestly think saying “capitalism!” is an sensible reason for a company to milk their fanbase. Capitalism is to make the most money you can, you can’t do that if you piss off the people who literally pay you.

If they actually wanted to make money they’d do the sensible thing and make content that people actually want to play instead of cutting corners like we blatantly saw with BFA and not listening to the fanbase on solutions for the plethora of issues people had with it, there would be no need for a cash shop.

Seriously, right now you are arguing for the sake of arguing.

But ok, let’s say they piss off all of the people who think they are being screwed over, and then quit the game. Do you think that will make Blizz change their stance on shop items? No, I don’t think so. As long as there is demand for shop items, Blizzard will continue to profit on it. It would be bad for business to ignore a new potential form of revenue. And believe, demand is higher than the number of disgruntled customers, so at this point, your anger is really wasted here.

At the end of the day, Blizzard will have their money, people will have their exclusive luxury items, and you are left holding a stick next to an unrecognizable pile of horse flesh.

Capitalism. You don’t like it? Well you don’t have to play.

I have a Costco membership but they STILL charge me for food/items I take out of there! I pay my monthly fee, why do I have to pay? Oh, that’s right, a membership fee doesn’t entitle me to everything in the store for nothing. /s

You should go yell at them about how they are taking advantage of you!

I could understand this argument if there wasn’t 15 years worth of transmogs out there to collect. If this was the only way out there to make your character look original then yes, that would be really unfair. There’s tons of ways to get transmogs and other collectables in game though. I suck at PvP and I’m not really a good enough player to do any high level raiding. So there’s titles, mounts, pets, and transmogs in this game that I will never be able to get. Should Blizzard change things so everyone can get them?

I mean, It’s my opinion I think the company is bad…you’re literally saying “No you don’t. You’re wrong!”

You can’t say my opinion that the company is going in a worse direction and is bad is wrong…get a clue? It’s literally my opinion.

Considering they stopped adding transmog to the cash shop 7 years ago just because of vocal backlash, I think people actually refunding / taking away money from them would be even more effective…as you say in your own words, that’s how capitalism works. You should consider studying it a little more and understanding it a little better.

That’s pure speculation and you can no way prove that, but if you want to just make things up, you do you.

We’ve already gone over this, though. I already stated I refunded everything, including my 6 month sub. Why are you still saying the same thing…?

Yup expansion costs and monthly fees do.

Not exactly yelling, but do you know what thread you’re posting in…? Oh who am I kidding, you probably don’t even know what the date is. :joy:

I kind of agree, kind of disagree. Saying there’s 15 years worth of transmog is a little silly because the quality of items didn’t really improve significantly until Mists of Pandaria, 8 years after the game started and even then it was very basic 3D effects to belts. Every new addition adds only a small handful. So for 8-10 years there was only a handful of physically different looking boots, gloves, shirts, pants, etc.

Every expansion they’ve added a handful of “better looking” gear in the sense that they put more effort into designing and making it, with more 3D pieces added, but not all of them, just a small amount.

If you take just what was made in Legion and BFA alone, there’s more diversity in terms of 3D additions and aesthetics than almost the entire game’s life.

It’s getting better every expansion as they add more, but they haven’t been making 3D looking gear for 15 years. I think in the next couple of expansions we’ll truly have much more gear to choose from.

No, because you don’t find that content fun so you don’t do it. Trying to compare simply not finding something that’s available to you to do in-game as fun or not to them charging money for stuff I think should be in-game already is kind of silly.
