Stopping flags being capped?

Warlocks AOE spell Rain Of Fire and Monks Crackling Jade Lightning does not stop players capping? It’s damage. Am I missing something?

just whack em with your stick.

It was from distance really annoying. I want to know is this normal or a bug?

Normal. DoTs don’t tend to interrupt flag capping unless there is a direct damage component (eg. Moonfire) and ‘drop and forget’ abilities like Rain of Fire and Blizzard also do not interrupt flag caps.

Crackling Jade Lightning is not a dot. it’s a damage spell.

That deals damage over time.

You are correct thanks for that. I actually read the tooltip correctly this time lol.

It’s channeled. It should work the same way as Penance.

Or penance should work like everything else. Like mind flay. Ill give penace a pass because its not a beam like everything else.

Ill add that rain of fire and starfall used to stop flag caps. But they were extremely unhealthy for rated pvp and got nerfed.

What about Arcane Missiles?

Yeah I got called out for not getting a player off a node in time. I’ve not played monk that often, I said I used CjL because I could not get near the node on time. The player capped it. Lack of knowledge on my part.

All my other stuff was on cooldown or I would have got to that player.

Yeah and now there is very little participation in Rated.

Arcane missile and penance dont put a dot debuff on the target. They also have damage the moment the spell is pressed. For example if I cancel a mindflay instantly, it does 0 damage. Dots that do not have instant damage on start up will not stop caps. Penance feels like more individual hits rather than just a continuous (dot) beam.

Its been like that for years, so I doubt that change stopped participation. BFA in general caused that.

I know I used to do rated back in the day as an enhanced shaman just for fun. I’ve not done it in years, never really enjoyed the raid like mentality of the leader we had.

Live and learn, I guess, but that still strikes me as odd. What else does a Mistweaver have to interrupt casting from range? Is a healer really supposed to run up to someone and whack them to stop a flag cap?

pretty sure starfall for druids doesn’t interrupt as well

It is kind of confusing which spells do this and which spells don’t. I feel like the tooltip should say haha… but also, experience will sort it out. You only make that mistake once or twice on either of those classes.

I can kind of see the logic on Rain of Fire not stopping it, but I would expect Crackling Jade Lightning to, given that it’s single target, channeled, and easily shut down. I don’t think it’s really any different than a mage spamming ice lance to stop flag caps, except that you have to stand still briefly to start it.

Drain life/soul is as well and doesn’t stop caps.

Yea, feels like it should as it’s basically the same as CJL… there was probably some post in like TBC that explained why it no longer prevents flag caps and it’s been lost to the years.

It’s only spells with immediate damage. Channeled spells like that really aren’t.
