Classic will be as Intended!
Get educated before you guys post nonsense. Layering is NOT permanent!
Sharding in starting zones for a few weeks turned into 4-6 months of realm wide sharding.
Itâs so much more then us being upset about sharding (layering), itâs also that none of us can trust blizzard after this.
If i cant complain then how else will people know that i am so important
Correct, Classic will be as intended, by a company that couldnât make the game today theyâre trying to recreate no matter how hard they tried.
Classic is NOT Vanilla, never will be, old Blizzard is gone, and the sooner we can accept this, the happier weâll all be.
Blizzard never confirmed any of what youâre saying, they said they are figuring out how to make it so that people can actually play the game.
So, because you interpreted that there will be sharding and that it would only be a few weeks is not anyone elseâs problem other than your own.
I mean you could just not play, that would make some room for the rest of us. Which is cool.
Weâre stuck with sharâŠLAYERING, sorry. Just like weâre stuck with loot trading, stuck with RCR, stuck with 1.12av, and stuck with every other change that saves blizzard money.
From what I can glean (since they saw fit to put a post about collectorâs edition in our forum, but not one on âlayeringâ) the difference between sharding and layering is that âlayeringâ will basically work the way sharding of zones works in games like SWToR and EQ. When a zone is âfullâ, another one spawns, and people can be shunted into that one.
That being said, âstarting zonesâ for âlimited timeâ becoming âall zonesâ for âall of phase 1â is ridiculous.
Sad, but true.
No, its a few weeks. The âNo Layering past Phase 1â was referring to World Bosses and AQ40.
People REALLY need to get a Clue.
Pretty much this.
Donât worry, itâs only the starting zones.
Donât worry, itâs only for the first two weeks.
Donât worry, itâs only stage 1.
Donât worry, sharding is good and itâs here to stay.
Anyone saying layering is sharding renamed has no idea what they are talking about. Layering is a far better solution than 1000s of realms that get force-merged after the initial drop-off or sharding every 100 people in an area or pservers awful dynamic respawns.

Well said. They keep moving the goal posts. I honestly believe they will end up keeping it for all of classic now.
Quite a dangerous slippery slope you are riding on. Letâs hope you are right.
So I just watched the first half of this video, specifically all the parts about layering.
There is one key phrase that was said that is concerning. He says they will try to make it so you are stickied in the same layer. So the fact that they said try, says to me that this may not always be something that can happen.
So many concerns for me regarding so much of this. I am trying to be optimistic and look at the bigger picture, but honestly right now, my enthusiasm and hype is completely squashed. This layering on top of them requiring a sub to even be given an extremely small chance of playing beta? Nah, not worth it to me. They even said in the video that it was going to be a very small number for the beta.
I donât have any issue paying to play a game I love. I have put tons of money into this game over the years, as Iâm sure many of you have as well. So for me, itâs not the money, itâs the principal of it. But them requiring people to sub for such a slim chance of a beta invite is so cheap in my opinion. All the news today just really left a bad taste in my mouth.
Edited to add: I am actually subbed right now, but just feel their way of going about it flat out wrong. What about the people who lost interest in this game years ago, but have looked forward to coming back? Sure, those people are willing to sub at launch. But to pay months in advance for a slim chance at a beta invite? Itâs just such a cheap marketing ploy in my opinion. This stuff feels like free to play antics to me. Pay for a chance at beta invite and sub to reserve a name. Wait, need to correct that. Itâs worse than free to play games. At least those games typically give you guaranteed beta access for paying months ahead of a launch.
Another key term everyone is overlooking, as I did the first time around as well, is âplay sessionâ. Heâs not even talking about âtryingâ to sticky you to a layer permanently, but rather just for that hour long play session you just completed. Log back in and you wonât be on the same layer. You are likely to see completely different people in the game world every time you log in.
Exactly, and you just brought up another of my concerns.
No matter how much everyone tries to twist it, this is an issue for many.
I canât believe we went from no sharding, to starter zone sharding, to everything is sharded for the first 4+ months.
At this point I donât think Iâm even going to bother playing.
Every piece of news released today leaves a sour taste in my mouth. August 28th is the âSummerâ release, CBT behind a sub, name reservations behind a pay wall and world-wide, indefinite sharââlayeringâ are just a lot of unsavory bits all at once. We have no reason to believe their sharding numbers, no reason to believe itâs temporary or just for âP1â (ignoring the obvious downstream server economy ramifications of a âP1â layer system). Itâs just ugh.
I get that theyâre in a rough spot. Hype is big. Launch week is going to be a nightmare for server loads and competition. They have to do something. But a little something turned into a giant something seemingly overnight. It all just seems so excessive. What if server population is SUPER high going into P2? Why not just extend the layering? And at that point arenât we all just CRZ for all intent and purposes; seeing completely new names, face, toons and guilds literally everytime we log in - with a 120,000-person realm there are up to 40 shards cycling that you get reassigned to every log in?
The -best case scenario- now is that Classic bombs completely, that server populations are super low 2 weeks in, and that this sharding technology is removed. And who wants to hope for failure? How is that fun? The better Classic does the larger the scope and the duration of these mechanisms and the more concessions we have to make.
Super deflating. And obviously all the shills and blindly obedient fanboys telling us to shut up and take our medicine are lovely too.
