Stop Turning Ray Traced Shadows on

Srsly, I’m getting tired of constantly having to turn Ray Traced Shadows off every time there’s any update/patch. Stop messing with my settings.

I hear you, I hate having to re-enable MSAA on nearly every update.

Can you not just edit your Config.wtf file to turn them off?

SET shadowRt “0”
SET RAIDshadowRt “0”

File should be in folder \World of Warcraft_retail_\WTF

Why would I go into the Config.wtf to change something I can just as easily change in the client? Blizzard keeps turning it back on and I keep turning it off, not asking how to… Can’t they JUST not revert settings or at the very least bring some transparency to when they are going to make those types of changes and WHY…

I’m more upset that Nvidia has my card listed as a ray trace enabled card but Blizzard won’t give me the option to turn on the settings.

Is your client set to use DX12 api? If it’s set to DX11 that option won’t be available even on an RTX.

But, wouldn’t that lead to other issues then since running DX12 on a compliant card actually improves performance?

You’d think so but Blizzard themselves recommend using DX11 for players experiencing graphical issues, and then usually recommend waiting for Nvidia to fix their drivers. Or claim they’re working with Nvidia on the issues.

Oh yeh it’s DX12, it’s just originally the RTX cards where the only ones that had ray tracing, than even before SL was released, I think even before SL had the ray tracing option Nvidia updated their drivers and whatnot and some non RTX cards became ray tracing cards.

Basically anything 1060 6GB upwards can have some basic ray tracing functions.

Yes, but the Nvidia cards without RT cores (such as the 1060 and the 1660) offer such diminished performance from ray-tracing functions that it’s almost not worth the effort. Maybe that’s why it doesn’t show up in the client – or maybe Blizzard hard coded the option to list only video cards with RT cores?

Putting all that aside, I know you have to be using drivers with DXR 1.1 (not 1.0) and you have to be using Windows 10 ver 2005 or later, for the game client to give RT options.
