Did people complain about Throne of Thunder being gated?
Or like Isle of Queldanas?
I didnt use the forums much back then

Totally agree. There’s many occasions where this took place and some recently. MOP and WOD had some amazing legendary quest lines. Very very fun and enjoyable. Legion had the Suramar questline which I found very fun as well.
Its a rare moment in consumerism when someone says ‘less is better’.
they do, because they make repeated journeys efficient, and if they’re designed well it opens different ways to traverse the world
but when you run into a mountain, that should be an obstacle, you should be wondering if there’s a way through or a path up, but you can just fly over it
flying trivializes all thought to traversal, and I find that incredibly lame, like when people talk about how the world is basically a lobby for instanced content, I look at flying as a culprit
Well, that happens all the time. Phones become smaller, computers more mobile. That being said, I’m not against or for mounts in general, I was just making a point.
i.e. the players had the maximum enjoyment of the game they bought at their own pace
there is nothing wrong with this at all
Its really a series of rooms with locked drawers that take variable amounts of time to get gold stars for.
traversal is a solid indicator of how much the dev is attempting to pad time played.
An analogy could be putting a 30 second timer on a turn based game, or liking the animation speed in a game like xcom.
There is no structural reason to keep the slow traversal timeframe from one action (drawer) to another. Except to slow. us. down.
While the romantic concept of artistic respect falls right out the window from the persistent iteration of the same animations, wire frames and textures.
You wanna try convincing players to keep their sub when they’ve seen the whole expansion in 5 months and know there won’t be anything else till the next expac?
it doesn’t matter if they keep their sub, that’s on the devs to make new content
timegating is just to get more money from subs, players have no need to sub longer, timegating is a detriment to players buddy
alts are for extending play, if the content is compelling enough
what are you a bliz stockholder or something?
That’s the biggest issue I think. People would zip through content in a month or two, raids and all, and then have nothing to do for 22 more months. I don’t think Blizzard can make enough content, at a fast enough rate, to let people do all content as fast as they possibly want. The game breaks down without pacing.
Maybe you fall victim to the psychological trap that large companies are supposedly doing everything for you, the customer. It’s just an act. At the end of the day, yeah it does matter whether players unsub if they consume the content way faster than devs create it.
I agree for sure
At the rate it’s going, might as well put it out of its misery tbh.
Suramar was to me an interesting way to go about it. It was clearly timegated. But because the gate was behind rep, it made me feel like I was more in control of it.
SL is basically the make or break of this game, players will either leave during or after it’s over if it doesn’t work. I know players who left after BFA because it was systems on top of systems that just didn’t give players control.
Now this, if they don’t open the restrictions very quick I won’t be surprised to see more players just hit the refund button in the next week, and no doubt that is why they are making changes, too many players have hit refund already.
To rise again you need to fall. A constant line of improvement is a fallacy imo.
Because everything was time-gated!
You have any proof this actually happened or are you basing it all on claims made by whiners such as yourself?
No, it is your claim that players have changed and want everything in the game to be given to them in a different way so it is up to you to explain it not us! You have to do so with actual proven facts and evidence, not whiny tears and claims made by whiners such as yourself on the forums,
So what? Some of us play alts, all the classes and it’s too much
I despise gated content, I hate that even crafting is now gated and this or that and EVERY FRICKEN THING is locked behind some kind of gate, if it’s not rep, it’s dailies or weekly rewards or lockouts. Meanwhile, you can kill N’zoth four times a week on the SAME character, it’s just different (ugh) tiers. It’s all ridiculous when you are coming around the bend on your fifth class let alone the 12th. The people who sub and stay subbed will soon unsub and never return. PVP systems have shown us that to be true.
Makes no difference I say 6 months in people will unsub anyway bored of lvling toons.
Well let’s see, Wrath offered the first time a better choice in what role you want allowing us to change spec easier, we had what 10-12 million subs at that point?
We had the mass exodus in WoD when they tried to take away flying, and some never came back when it was still limited flying with pathfinder.
Now we have servers merges taking place, that can only mean there are some servers with such a little population it’s not worth keeping them alone.
The main thing that has occurred regularly over the years is class homogenisation and removal of player choice. And in the last couple of expacs, more limitations, more power systems and more grinding.
