Stop the Fires! is bugged. Again

Not sure how the Alliance version is holding up, but the Horde side version in ‘phased’ Brill (Seriously? We haven’t moved the holiday out of an area that we specifically have to go BACK IN TIME to get to yet?) is not completable because even if you throw the bucket dead-on to the fires, they do not go out, and even with a team of 6+ folks using bucket-lines to get to the fires, we’re unable to put them out before the Headless Horseman declares victory and flies off.

How are the widgets interacting? The display seems to suggest a purely flat AoE, but a lot of the fires on the buildings in Tirisfal are behind wooden beams or high up on the sides of the buildings, meaning that there’s a good chance we’re ‘missing’ the flames even when we’re throwing directly at them.

Is there a situation going on where you need X amount of players to be able to successfully complete? Or is this just another situation where the old mechanics don’t work on the modern version of the game?

Alliance side is just as bad. Goldshire on ED had like 20 people trying to put out fires, and buckets were doing nothing on the buildings. We did manage to put fires out on the fenceposts though lol

Not just Brill, same thing in Razor Hill.

Did it a couple hours ago on 1 toon in Razor Hill with no issues completing the quest. Though it was odd that after putting out the fires and bringing the Horseman to the ground, that another immediately appeared and started the fires again. Could have been a phasing thing.

But, then on a second toon in Razor Hill about 6 of us were throwing water at fires, but no amount of ‘hits’ with water was dousing the flames.

They honestly should just remove these dailies from the game if they’re never going to bother fixing them. I’d rather the quests get fixed, but it’s just frustrating to have Holiday daily quests that you just can’t complete.

looking like its a person to person type of bug, some players are able to put out fires with the water while most are not.

I’ve never had problems putting the fires out in the past, but this year, the buckets are literally doing nothing to the fires. Even in the Fire Training quest prior to getting Stop the Fires, throwing water on any of the 5 mini wickermen does not put out any fire like it did previously. Thankfully you still get credit for “throwing” the water at the fire, even though it doesn’t affect it at all lol. I’ve tried disabling addons, restarting game, multiple characters…nothing works. I have seen very few people actually being able to affect the fires, the majority cannot from what I have seen so far.

Its freaking impossible fix this blizz.

Still broken for most people. It seems like it will randomly work for some but mostly not.

Paying dearly since 2021 without getting this damn achievment by game error. If Blizz can’t keep up, it should take away the Halloween event. Very frustrating!

We managed in Goldshire but it took everyone hopping up on their brooms to get to the corner of the blacksmith to continuously throw buckets down on the same four fires.

This problem keeps running year after year. Why don’t just remove this content? They prefer to work on new stuffs than correct the old ones. So sad! :frowning:

I think the fires have a hidden amount of HP, and each bucket douse does some amount of damage to it. Upon mentioning this to another person, they suggested the issue might be a problem with scaling; it seems to take 6-8 buckets to douse a single flame for a level 70.

We (the 2 of us) managed to complete it in Falconwing Square by chaining buckets to each other instead of each throwing them individually. You can do a bucket every GCD this way. Not having to constantly adjust your camera helps a lot since you’re just standing in the same spot the entire time. It also helps that since only one person is targetting the flames, they could work on the same flame until it was gone.

This was fast enough that we could beat the spread of the fire, which seems to happen after a fire has been alive for certain amount of time. If a fire hasn’t been quashed in time, then it will immediately spread to a neighbouring spot when one opens up, so cleaning up the 2nd half of Falconwing required putting every fire out at least twice. It took about 50-60 buckets at a bucket every 1.5 seconds.

This is actually a really plausible theory, and matches with my wife’s and my experience in Goldshire over the last two days / dozen attempts.

There’s certainly something different [wrong] with this year’s tuning.

It has nothing to do with scaling, this quest has been broken for a long time now since they changed the mechanics, it’s been doing this is 9.0.1.

How is this still a freaking problem? The event is over next week and neither me nor my daughter have been able to clear the fires after several attempts over the past week and a half. At this point Blizz should be gifting people the rare drops from him.

After trying several times in Goldshire, a group of us attempted it again based on this post and it seems your theory has a lot of merit. Unfortunately, this now requires a lot more people as a result. Frustrating to have to figure this out the hard way.
