the amount of questlines i have encountered since i came back almost 2 months ago that were broken due to something being removed is infuriating. heaven forbid someone that hasnt played in years wants to play old content to catch up on the story. currently trying to finish off my order hall quests in legion, but i cant because apparently brawls dont exist any more. leastwise the ones that count for the achieve/quest. did a ‘brawl’ though the lfg, but it didnt count. and while this is the most recent example i encountered, and the one that inspired this post, the amount of times i have encountered something referencing something removed, or pointing me to something that has been removed, is just stupid.
modern wow is outright hostile to new and returning players. especially if they make the mistake of trying to care about the lore. or playing through old content. put all the old content back in the damned game. add pre cata to zidormi. let legacy sets activate set bonuses.
and while im ranting, get rid of scaling. what is the POINT of leveling up when mobs just level with you? this wasnt adding anything to the game, by the way… this was removing the effect of leveling. i swear it feels like the devs are seeing how many of the worst ideas in the gaming industry wow can tank before it, well, tanks.
maybe you shouldnt gain a level after every bloody quest then. maybe it should take more than 4 hours to hit max level. maybe leveling as a concept also shouldnt have been removed from the game.
I had farmed something for Engineering at a point early on in the game thru a quest line.
When I went back more recently it had been entirely removed so cant get the schematic anymore.
it might be ok if it were done for any good reason, but that quest didnt really affect anything else. No good reason to remove it other than just to do it.
The enemies don’t really level with you with level scaling. They actually become more powerful than you because your gear can’t keep up with their level.
welp, the actual effect is i am genuinely rethinking my return to the game. i like cruising around old zones, grinding old rep, doing old quests, hunting old mounts… catching up with the lore.
and them removing old content, introducing new bugs that go unresolved for years, and trying to use fomo to sell people absurdly over priced shop items is doing a remarkable job of showing me that unofficial servers are superior.
edit - as an aside, it is extremely disorientating having characters in a dozen different places at a dozen different points in their story. i am completely and utterly confused as to what happened when with who, despite literally spending the last two months trying to play through the lore in a chronological fashion.
