There’s a lot of people who would agree that the game should be built around maximum inconvenience. For other people. People who think like this never leave the current zone, and rarely even go out into the world after whatever obligatory requirements have been fulfilled.
They spend their time waiting in queue, alt-tabbed to netflix or something.
You’re happiest when wow is more like a building of warcraft than a world.
I have been wondering this as well. To me it doesn’t make any sense to anger the people who pay your bills. Didn’t one person stand up in that meeting and say, “hey, I really don’t think the players want us to remove all of these portals.” I am sure at least one person had to know there would be backlash.
How about a compromise.
Blizzard removes all the portals in the game, except major portals in the hub cities to other hub cities. But as a give, they update the Hearthstone to allow you to teleport to any inn that your character has been to in the game.
Wow… You just keep getting better and better. You know… I regret coming back to the wow forums. With posts like yours, it really makes me sad. I know you have a responsibility to your company, but for those of us who don’t want to travel for 30,000,000,000,000 to the power of google years to get somewhere, it’s not cool. You give something and then you take it away and expect us to roll over and lick the drool of the floor like it’s the water of life or a bottle of 1945 Romanee-Conti. Btw, that bottle of red wine is worth $558,000. I’m sad I came back.
Edit: There was a time when I would have given anything to work as a game designer for Blizz. It was the whole inspiration for my degree in game design. But with posts like yours, Blizz is the last company I would want to work for and if that kind of attitude is what it would take to get into a company as big as yours, could me out.
Edit 2: What’s sad is I know you would never respond a post like this.
I understand that changes can throw people off a bit at first, but I also think they help keep the world of Azeroth feeling alive. When there are fewer portals, does the world feel a bit bigger to you? Do you like that? How difficult is it to get to the locations you mentioned without a direct portal (talking to everybody who isn’t a mage here ) ?
I like a bigger world and these changes help that.

That’s a good idea but hell will freeze over before that happens.
I wonder if any of these Devs or CMs even play the game they’re working on.
I doubt more than a handful play the game.

Classic is on it’s way. =P
I was leveling my Shaman last night and hit a dungeon queue and got Razorfen Kraul. I started to remember what it used to take to get to that dungeon.

Kids need’a get off my lawn.

It does not feel more alive and it does not feel bigger. It feels more aggravating. Include portals to E V E R Y W H E R E.
As I said in another post, it’s better than silence. They know people have a problem with this. A CM is involved. It’s more than what we’ve normally gotten. And I think this is a big chance for Blizz to know and understand what we want and where we are coming from because turning back on the portals shouldn’t be a problem. Besides, I don’t think the CMs can openly criticize the game. I don’t know if you have noticed, but threads with a Blue post generate a lot of traffic. They are getting a lot of feedback here. Idk. I’m giving them a chance after the layoff restructure.
Also am I given to understand there is no portal to the Panda city now? Just Jade forest? Right when Pandaria raiding with leashes is released?
Big screw you too!

So, if we don’t have PvP vendors because the game designers thought it would be to hard for us to find them, aren’t they concerned that we might get lost with fewer portals in game? I’m not feeling the love here!
The more I think about it, the more I realize that this is just another thing that WoW is really behind other MMOs on. Every other MMO I’ve played lets the players fast travel in some way. ESO you have to unlock the waypoints before you can travel between them, and if you want to teleport when you’re not at one already, it costs gold. FF14 also costs gold, and you have to travel to them first. GW2 doesn’t cost anything I don’t think, but it’s been awhile.
I don’t think it’s too much to have portal hubs in each major city. Even that is archaic compared to most (or all) other games.
If we remove all portals the world will be as big as possible?
These “quality of life” type changes are what ruined retail in the first place and why class identity is somewhat lost.
Wouldn’t it be better to maybe have a quest mages can do to unlock more portal locations and have THEM make portals for other players?
Oh wait that would require human interaction like those MMORPG’s have… can’t possibly expect people to just talk to each other in WOW.
I say remove ALL portals. If you want to add more depth and flavour have a portal room treated like cauldrons were in vanilla. Mages can only create a portal to certain places from a portal room…
Yeah for crying out loud what was the point if spending gold on a dalaran portal trinket ring now
Stop removing portals g damit
I have no problem with easy travel., trust me,it would feel just fine This is not world of Portal craft. Make fun and engaging zones and encounters. Travel that gated and cumbersome is just frustrating and makes me want to log off.

Then you don’t want an MMO you want a queue simulator.
