Look its very clear WoW and MMO’s in general. Do not make good esports. GW2 learned that lesson years ago when they pushed a Moba PVP game mode that failed on launch hard.
Looking at the last AWC it had just under 225k views. For a game that has millions of subs? That’s really awful even for a channel on youtube that has 1.58 million subs. That’s really underperforming and that’s the big video.
Now I hear you all already. But op WoW is mostly a pve game, and pvp is a niche group. Okay and I hear you.
However, MDI Cup 4. Sits at 182k views. The big content this xpack pushes is M+ for making it an esport pushing event like this, and its got 182k views. Again this is a really low underperforming video series for a youtube channel that big. Its extra not good if WoW has even 2million subs. (Nobody knows the real number anymore. but 2mil is a lowball imo.)
With the under performing in mind. I think its clear Esports in WOW is not making blizzard money. They saw the success they had in OW, and want to push it here, but WoW isn’t OW. Its not LoL, or rocket league. Its just not a game style that’s super fun for people to watch.
I agree. I’m not a fan of esports. And the more WoW goes that direction, the less I end up playing. Good thing they brought classic out, or I might never have subbed again.
The prize pools are also so poor that it doesn’t justify the focus on esports at all. Most of the players that compete just love playing the game, which I guess you could say isn’t a bad thing but the lack of reward is pretty awful for a game that focuses so heavily on esports rather than fun.
Currently, Blizzard is catering to ESporters, Twitchers and YouTubers for one reason…MONEY. I agree that a game like WoW should not be an ESport. WoW should be an immersive fantasy game, not Madden 2021.
The mythic is not really good esport IMO . Why ? Because its players VS computers . The only place where it deserve a E sport spot is PvP . Why? Because its Only players and RNG in comps and map.
there should be some sort of physical obstacle course for E-sport competitions to see whos in better shape before they get to their computers sort of like most extreme elimination challenge or ninja warrior
wow will never be an esport because it’s impossible for a non-veteran wow player to understand what they’re seeing on the screen. I have no idea what I’m looking at and I’ve played for years.
but people can appreciate a fantasy rpg world even if they don’t play it. So make wow all fantastical and rpg.
Crazy that you think Blizz would continue doing stuff that doesn’t make them money. Or, better yet, you implying Blizz could even be losing money on this. Kek.
“I think the YouTube views are low. So, I think Blizz should cancel it.” - Your entire post.
Yes, it’s no secret that there’s been an emphasis on eSport in WoW for the past few expacs.
Doesn’t mean that the game is less of an immersive world/game though. You can still get deep into the lore, you can still RP, there are tons of “immersive” addons out there.
Nobody is forcing anyone to min/max, push for keys, run mythic raids, or do hardcore PvP.
The game is just a game. It’s there to be played the way you want to play it. Maybe you’ve changed, maybe you actually don’t enjoy the game anymore? After playing the game since 1.8, I was in that specific situation for the past 2 expacs (Legion/BFA). Now I’m back and I’m enjoying myself - just take a break, go play something else, learn new things, find another hobby. Again, WoW is just a game, there’s an actual world out there.
One of E-sports officials told Blizzard that their platform isn’t going to appeal the majority for long compared to LoL. What would of been okay if they focus on rated battlegrounds as the E-sports focus because then they can understand which spec performs well than the other and see more volunteer there than in Arenas.
I mean, they let HotS loose money on it’s e-sport market for 3 years or so before finally pulling the plug. There are also reports that the OW league is either at margins or dipping red. I think Blizz is just trying to throw money and create an artificial scene for their e-sports hoping that they’ll eventually take off like LoL and DotA2, without realizing that there was a community already there pushing smaller e-sports competitions, their respective companies just put out a bigger offering and the smaller communities just swelled together under the company’s official e-sports leagues
What would fix this is well…not watching. Maybe if they get next to no views that will be a big fat hello to wake up and take the hint.
This has Activision written all over it…bobby milked Guitar Hero and rock band into its own burned out destruction because all he cares about is profit for as little work as possible and sees it as “how things work in this industry”…no passion or care for the customers…only their cash.
Its why the last 3 expansions seem to be the same systems with more busy work systems and now less loot to keep you inside but its wearing people down because NONE OF ITS FUN OR INTERESTING!
Just like this esport junk…its all to farm us like the druid bots farm herbs and leather.
Getting hard to want to keep logging in day to day and I really want to…
A little unrelated, but I think that they did the AoE cap because they didn’t want the MDI to look like a joke (like the Atal’Dazar runs). But now they’re still pulling 20 mobs at a time because all teams have fire mages and boomerangs. Might as well help out my eyes in the MDI and just show one team, because the other team is probably doing the exact same thing. GG
