Just start an orb ninja movement and encourage folks to join and loot orbs until it becomes a common practice.
Classic is already spoiled by it’s botched release and nothing will make it like vanilla at this point. They let the kind of players who cheat gain an enormous advantage over folks that just want to play. It will never recover.
I knew they didn’t have the skill to produce a vanilla wow, I said so and had zero plans to try it out until some old vanilla folks i knew talked me into trying. Then the fact that they botched major game breaking features took all the wind out of my sails and the cheaters win again.

To the OP - I would agree with you except there are no tanking items from Live Strat so it seems the only way to get a tank is to give them the 1st orb as appreciation for their services and round robin the rest.

I saw some tank gear and melee dps gear they would want for when they’re not in dungeons.
I just keep seeing groups advertising that multiple or all orbs are reserved and it seems a little silly when that’s the only place to even get them

Well, you can always tank your own groups and let everybody roll over you for them.

if only the dungeon had good enough vendor/auctionables/gold. god forbid you make under 10g per run. That would be horrible!

I had no choice when I needed my neck, wont do it now that I dont need gear, but thats just how the game works. You need stuff, so do others, either you square that circle or move on.

There’s nothing for a tank to bother running live for if all they care about is BEING a tank. sure there’s great gear if they want to respec at some point to do something actually fun but most tanks are dry and humorless and just want to raid log and nothing else.
I’d gladly run strat live as a tank if i had one though.

Form your own group. Don’t reserve anything.
Slowly grow old in IF while waiting for a tank.

I’m gonna be honest, people really shoulda just gave strat live the “SM and ZF treatment”. They can be done without a tank and a full cloth group and the healer doesn’t even have to be level 60.
Scholo needs physical dps because of the magic immune skeletons and several bosses have aggro drops and hit hard, so that one is much harder to do without a tank.

I’ve only done strat live a handful of times. I got crusader on my MH, and a third orb in my backpack. Have not bought one from the AH. Sometimes 1st orb was reserved, sometimes not so much.
My point is – who cares? Dude wants an orb to tank a dungeon, give baby his bottle and move on with life. Sheesh.

Either offer first orb for the tank and get a tank or spend a good long while looking for one…can’t get orbs if you can’t get into the dungeon

If I am going to tank for a random group (seeing as how they’re rare? /shrug) better believe I will reserve the first orb or better yet you can level up a tank.

Strat live doesn’t require a tank proper to run if you use CC and coordination.
Additionally it’s common practice in my server to roll on the first orb, then after that the winner of the last one passes, this pattern repeats until everyone has an orb then all roll again.

Get used to it. Tanks can and will reserve loot. Orbs, fire protection recipe, flask recipe, DPS gear. It’s the payment to tank for you ungrateful POS players.

20g to tank Scholo? A 1 hour instance?
Well that took me about 3-4 Dire Maul resets worth of grey trash vendor loot.
I think of it as the tank making 20-25g per hour while I make at least 30-40g per hour in just vendor loot.
