Theres a large portion of the players that enjoy this, and a smaller part of the community that doesnt like it. People that gear up to a certain extent like to go back and do content to show off what they have worked hard to get.
If you continuously move reasons for people to go into the content; you will eventually not even have people doing the content.
My only argument is that generally a percentage of people raid out of an MMO’s entire community and a percentage of that probably focuses on parsing.
While I don’t think parsing needs to go away, I do think people who wear it as some sort of badge of validation is a little much especially if they’re using it to harass or berate others.
I agree that it’s absurd for these folks to whine about parsing and asking to remove it b/c they didn’t get into a group one time due to their bad parsing, but baselessly asserting something about the popularity of parsing without any evidence isn’t going to persuade anyone. It’s also just poor reasoning and poor argumentation.
It doesn’t matter how popular parsing is. The only “problem” anti-parsers can point to is gatekeeping and that really isn’t even a thing. No one can stop you from running any of the content in this game. All they can do is exclude you from running that content with them and you aren’t entitled to a spot in someone else’s group.
That’s the only argument we need to make and it doesn’t require us to make baseless assertions about numbers none of us can access.
That’s what I don’t get. Folks keep saying that, but I’ve never seen it. I’ve never seen any sort of screenshots on the subreddit or anything like that.
bruh… when i was farming WSG for the exalted rep… i had people daily telling me i sucked and then would look up my parses and announce to everyone i was averaging 60%
it happens all the time… i dont think parsing should go away… because who cares? i only have parses because people in my guild enjoy parsing their gameplay… but to act like it doesnt happen is sickening and honestly dishonest of you
I think what they meant was that suggesting there’s no evidence of being harassed by others with parsing is being willfully/intentional dishonest.
There’s all sorts of accounts of people who give their personal experiences dealing with people who have insulted them and worse on account of their parse logs.
I’ve played both WoW and FFXIV for quite some time and the kind of people who play and raid are absolutely capable of doing this. Heck, there’s a person I was arguing not long ago who was berating me for not using potions/consumes and suggested I was being carried despite parsing well during the raid.
So yes, it does happen. People have inferiority complexes and don’t like the only things they are good at to be questioned in a negative light.
/ >_>;; I suppose you might also tell me Shamans don’t need a nerf.
A simple search of the forum posts here will answer your question quickly with plenty evidence of people insulting others over perceived and accused underperformance.
Enhancement can get nerfed into the ground for all I care. All this shaman hate, and here I am doing more healing on my fresh 40 resto druid (with the attack power trinket) than my almost-BIS resto shaman ever has.
If they remove parsing it will just evolve back to gear score. Then if you dont have the gear to do the content at a level that is consistent with speed of completion, then you wont be taken… and then you will never be taken.
