Even if EVERY class was able to tank, I doubt there would be more available.
The real problems are:
Tank Abuse. If they aren’t perfect people complain about their routes, technique, and survivability.
Responsibility. Learning routes, shortcuts, and tricks requires alot of on-hand experience and out of game add-ons/research/watching videos. Its not for everyone. I used to love to tank dungeons, but haven’t since Mythic+ came to be, and its rather intimidating not knowing affixes, routes, etc.
PvP. They are not wanted there and have no role except for a few BGs, and only if you are certain tanks. This causes alot of people to not play them. Unfortunately this requires Blizzard to change what tanks are/do when it comes to PvP, and it doesnt seem like an easy fix…maybe in the future. Only healers are in demand in PvP.
We dont need Evoker tanks, or Mage/Warlock tanks, or Shaman tanks, until they fix these issues. Unfortunately every group activity requires alot of DPS and few Tanks/Healers, and their experience is not as fun or rewarding as topping a DPS meter, and patting yourself on the back.
Its in Blizzard’s court…I dont think there is any substantial way to reward players choosing these roles in the current system (responsibility, dampening, tank hate).
I agree that making more tank specs wouldn’t really do much as far as tank shortages go but that doesn’t mean that people who enjoy tanking can’t want some more options.
More tank specs still benefits people who actually like to tank. Getting a new race that’s DOA because it can’t tank isn’t fun, especially when there’s not much else new in DF.
Either they become blocky tanks with a shield, or just because of scales, a meatshield like Bear…
Yea they could have some cool fire breaths or whatnot, but they really need a new mechanic to make it worthwhile to add, not just a lizardman with a shield.
Idk how many times I’m gonna keep answering these threads…
Tanks shouldn’t be ‘rewarded’ for choosing to play a tank. Cookies for doing your job will only create entitled players.
Only bad players get the tank hate, and that goes for dps and healers as well. DPS gets a lot of hate when they screw up in mythic plus… Stop sucking? Problem solved.
Learning routes takes 5 minutes or less on youtube per dungeon. You can do it on the toilet.
That’s what these devs get paid to figure out. (At least I hope its the creative stuff because their execution would get them canned in every industry I’ve ever worked in)
Well if there were more tank specs then that means more tanks in the rotation to choose from. Having more tanks means they can keep treating tanks like crap because they have more to choose from.
