Stoopzz has quit WoW

General Discussion is the goat section plus this is a general discussion and not pvp solely. A player leaving the game is just another general discussion to be talked about.

I’m not even sure the thread is derailed, at least not yet, so not sure what you are talking about.

Yes, and she was pointing out that it was ok not to know the person if you don’t PvP that much.

I guess if we are up in arms, it’s only out of frustration in your lack of reading comprehension.

I mean, if you don’t pvp much, theres no reason you would know who a meaningful pvp player is

I disagree. You remove Asmond, Preach, Stoopz and others…. It does start to chip away at the foundation. It does have a detrimental effect.

People who don’t think streamers matter don’t realize what millions of dollars of free advertising on twitch is doing for Blizzard.

Never heard of this person

Whether or you care/agree about streamers or not, you have people who make literal IRL money from streaming the game and even those folks are walking away from WoW.

If you can’t see that as a sad reflection of the state of the game today, then I’m not sure what to tell you.

What do you think large swathes of the population who don’t make money to play WoW will do?

When I started playing WoW there were no streamers and the game grew to 12 million players, at this point the game could use no advertising and do just fine!

This is nonsensical.

Yes, WoW had no streamers, and neither did any other games.

Now, other games have streamers. if wow streamers leave, wow falls lower and lower on the twitch home page. If you think that has no affect on activity, you’re ignorant.

Except that new players choose games to buy based on a process like seeing a steam recommendation, looking up a letsplay or stream of it to see what the game is actually like instead of what it’s advertised to be on it’s steam page.

If someone checks for letplays or streams in the past year and doesn’t see something good, they’ll just click next on steam suggestions.

Cynyc is correct.
Twitch is now part of the game shopping process.

You noticed that right? Funny thing for a long time FFXIV never been at the top of 3 columns in forever until recent. It’s going to stay like that for awhile until more competition comes out. Even if WoW does something amazing competition has caught up with it and can surpass it.

You care enough to engage in the conversation, but you don’t care enough to understand opposing points of view. You’re effectively talking with your fingers plugged in your ears.

yes, yes it is. Unless significant changes are made, particularly in the way blizzard handles communication with its playerbase and designs (removes) its borrowed power systems, the downward trajectory of players leaving the game is going to continue, and the return of players each expansion cycle is going to diminish heavily. Nothing short of a genuine apology will bring back a large number of the player base, and even that likely won’t be enough. People, myself included, are tired of the game feeling like a job. I don’t want to get off work at 6 30 on a Thursday and come home to do chores in a game. I’d rather just vacuum the floor.

Few key streamers, namely asmongold, play a significant part in that. I’m not much of an asmongold fan by any means (like i’m not constantly tuning into streams), though I do appreciate his candidness. Whether you like or dislike him, reality is he has a significant number of viewers when he streams. Those viewers are either watching him play wow or they’re watching him play another game.

Funny thing he was afraid to make the transition, but I think it just happen at a perfect time. Then another fiasco happen which dealt another major blow. I am curious to see how the company recovers, but other than that the streamer gained more followers. If anything a win win for him and others that were successful in the part.

They’re more the canary in the coal mine.

Big part of their decisions is probably based on them looking at their own viewership numbers and seeing a trend.

Playerbase charts show WOW having steady player growth from vanilla all the way through WOTLK. The cycle of “play the first few months and then leave” didn’t happen until CATA. Yes, WOW is the rare exception with MMORPGs, but you did use the words “since inception” and “That’s how it’s always worked.”

There are streamers who rely primarily on skill and engage in extremely high-level content and there are more personality-oriented streamers.

When personality is your trait, you can move from game to game. When you’re more about high-level gameplay, the issue with leaving the current game is you’re leaving what you’re best at to join a new game that likely already has high-level content creators, and you’re starting as a beginner. For a lot of streamers, people care less about their personality and care more about their talent and gameplay input.

They fired JAB. All’s well and all has been corrected and forgiven. They removed their scapegoat and haven’t addressed any of the player complaints related to the playability of this garbage expansion. So, here’s hoping we see a lot of promises of change in the upcoming weeks.
