Why on earth did they change stomp to trigger when barbed shot is fired? It also doesn’t hold aggro anymore. This and not having misdirect reset after killing an honor/xp target basically destroys the solo BM playstyle I loved. Do these designers even play WoW anymore? Fun detected I guess.
Just came back to hunter for SL, am disappoint. 1/10. Will not main.
Am I missing something? Hasn’t Stomp been cast on Barbed Shot cast for all of BFA?
I have never really had any issues with pet threat as BM, and I generally parse in the 90 percentile. This sounds like you need to look at how you are playing, like you may be able to learn something here about the class.
MD on a 30 sec CD is fine, you really shouldn’t need it on solo content any more than that.
Far be it for me to dictate which class you play however, if you are not digging it, move on dude.
WTF are you on about? Stomp never had anything to do with holding aggro. Your other pet abilities generate like 10 times more threat. Plus, Stomp is now considered pet damage so it adds aggro to your pet. Before Barbed Shot was a thing, Stomp used to proc on Dire Beast, which had a separate threat table, and that was worse for aggro, but still fairly inconsequential.
Nah man, *thunderstomp held aggro for tenacity pets. I guess once you get to 450+ you can survive mobs hitting you, but below that pulling 3 or more is bad news, especially farming RR rep.
Uh… cast Multi-shot. It procs Beast Cleave. Beast Cleave does more AoE damage than Multi-Shot and you don’t have any other AoE that can generate threat on yourself. Therefore your pet holds aggro.
I can literally pull 20 mobs and none of them will hit me even once, because Beast Cleave pulls all the threat towards my pet. Don’t throw my gear as an excuse.
The best thing to do is to macro Misdirect together with Multi-Shot, that way you can pull far away enemies towards your pet with multishot and then let Beast Cleave keep the threat afterwards once they stack on your pet.
About Thunderstomp. That ability doesn’t exist anymore. Stomp is the name of a talent, but they’re not related. But you really don’t need Thunderstomp to hold threat. Furthermore, Tenacity are not tanking pets anymore. Ferocity pets are now better for tanking, since they get leech (10% by default, 15% with Aspect of the Beast).
Since leech scales with damage done you heal more by pulling more and cleaving, so pets are actually better tanks than they were in the past.
Exactly what @Khallid said. Use a Ferocity pet with the talent Aspect of the Beast, with enough mobs your pet can keep itself alive through Leech.
Aggro should never really be an issue. When rep farming mass mobs I usually pop MD, hit has many things as I possibly can in the next 8 seconds, then maintain beast cleave with multishot. RARELY I will have to drop a Mend Pet, but usually the Leech is more than enough.
EDIT: Side note, this works because Beast Cleave can currently hit all targets in range, when (if?) the pre-patch drops, Beast Cleave will be limited to 5 targets … it’ll still be strong, but we wont be able to pull 20+ mobs at a time any more. /sadpanda
Thunderstomp the pet ability and the Stomp talent for BM hunters are two separate abilities. Thunderstomp was removed in BFA from Tenacity and this had nothing to do the BM hunter talent.
I’ve been pulling as many mobs as I could since I started leveling in BFA. I prefer the soon to be extinct misdirect and barrage method. I never had any issues with threat. Gear has never been an issue, no clue what this guy is talking about.
No idea what you’re talking about. I don’t have any trouble with aggro. Do you remember what it was like prior to MoP; we were always getting slapped around.
The only issue I have with Barbed Shot/Stomp is the fact that it will often stomp in thin air. I can’t ever remember MD getting reset on target death, although they changed how it functions (changing it back in SL). I can’t find anything saying that in the patch notes either.
I’m more surprised at how easy it is to hold aggro than how hard it is. I rarely have to even cast growl in solo content nowadays.
This happens when you’re in range to hit Barbed Shot but your pet is not in range to dash. I’m not 100% sure what the dash range of Barbed Shot is but it appears to be a bit shorter than the 40 yard range of your bow (which is super dumb). It’s also much shorter than Kill Command’s dash, which is 50 yards.
I don’t remember honestly, my experience with BM in Legion was very limited, I read a guide for how to do the Mage Tower and got the skin, and that was about it.
We used to have a lot of glyphs that did a lot of useful things. And yes, that MD glyph was awesome. We lost a lot of little things when they removed glyphs that they never replaced.
My only complaint is that stomp breaks my traps when I have very little choice but to renew barbed shot to closely. Terrible hunter design for a main rotation shot to break our own traps as if we have a real choice in the matter.
